It’s a time for celebrations, for enjoying family and friends, and for starting our
resolutions for the New Year ahead. I hope that Altrusa is part of your planning
for the upcoming year. The International Board of Directors, the District Boards of
Directors, with the Governors at the helm, the International and District
Committee Chairs, and the International Office Staff (your Biennium Team) are
here and ready to help you achieve the goals you set for yourselves. We need to
keep our eyes on our Membership growth by bringing new members and keeping
our long time members; and we need this to be Association wide. We have so
much to offer! With the holiday season upon us and the time for gift giving, Give
the Gift of Altrusa; if you are like me, you know that you get a lot more out of being
an Altrusan than you put into it, the friendships that you make alone are a
priceless gift!
I mentioned our Committees, you will read a lot in this issue of the Compass
about the ASTRA Committee, representing the young people who defy the
stereotype that the younger generation does not care about service to their
communities. Please remember that your Biennium Team is here for you, We love
to hear your thoughts and ideas, so keep in touch.
In closing I wish you and your families all a wonderful Holiday Season and a
Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
In Altrusa Service,
Silvia D. Silverman, President
Altrusa International, Inc.
The International Office will be
closed December 24th-25th
and January 1st in observance
of the holidays. Aside from
these closures, we will have
regular office hours.

Recently, our Altrusa community lost a cherished member, and Past International Foundation Chair, Margaret “Peggy” Lee. Peggy chaired the
International Foundation Board during the 2007-2009 Biennium and championed the Foundation’s Disaster Relief Program. She worked diligently to expand its
scope, resulting in the current Disaster Relief Support Program.
The International Foundation Board invites your contributions to support the Disaster Relief Program in memory of Peggy Lee, and encourages you to seek opportunities for Altrusa service in disaster areas by applying for Disaster Relief grants.

DISASTER RELIEF PROGRAM - IN MEMORY OF PEGGY LEE
The International office has graduation cords available for graduating high school and college
ASTRA members. The cords are red and silver and will be mailed to ASTRA Clubs upon request to
Adriana Mena at the International office. It is recommended that you ask for approval from your
school prior to ordering the cords. Please submit to Adriana the ASTRA Advisor’s name,
permanent address and e-mail address, and a personalized letter will be sent with the cords.
End of Year Club Activity Reports are due to the International office no later than April 1, 2016.
This report is one way for ASTRA Clubs to be recognized for their outstanding service within their
community. From these submissions, five ASTRA Clubs will be randomly selected. Altrusa
International Foundation will then provide a $100 donation in each Club’s name to the
organization of their choice.
Be sure to submit ASTRA scholarship applications to the International Office by March 15th!
End of Year Club Activity Reports, scholarship application forms, and other resources can be
found online at http://members.altrusa.org/Committees/StandingCommittees/ASTRAClubs/

they are planning to participate again next year.
131 Clubs have completed the 2014-2015 Club
Annual Report as of December 11th, 60 of which
