In the wake ofCOVID19, even duringrestricted movements andtraffic flow, Western Railwayis ensuring the supply of milk,medicines and othernecessary products todifferent parts of the countrythrough its various trains. Ithas also taken theresponsibility of transportingessential items like medicalequipment, food, etc in smallparcel sizes across the nation,as it has always been fullycommitted to the needs of itscustomers. On 28th August,2020 one parcel special leftfrom Porbandar to Shalimarand another indent rake leftfrom Karambeli to NewGuwahati. March to 27thAug, 2020,commodities weighing above1.10 lakh tonnes have beentransported by Western Rlythrough its 499 parcel specialtrains, which mainly includedagricultural produce,medicines, fish, milk etc. Therevenue generated throughthis transportation, has beenapprox. Rs 35.76 crore. Duringthis period, 80 milk specialtrains were run by WesternRly, with a load of more than60,700tonnes and 100%utilization of the wagons,generating revenue of approxRs 10.49 crore. Similarly, 390Covid-19 special parcel trainswith a load of more than 36thousand tonnes were alsorun to transport variousessential commodities, forwhich the revenue earnedwas approx. Rs 18.50 crore.In addition to this, 29 indentedrakes carrying more than12,400 tonnes were also runwith almost 100% utilizationgenerating revenue of morethan Rs 6.77 crore.During the

lockdown period from 22ndMarch till 27th August, 2020,total 13,145 rakes of goodstrains have been used by WRto supply essentialcommodities amounting to27.32 million tonnes. 25,885freight trains have beeninterchanged with other zonalrailways, in which 12,945trains were handed over and12,940 trains taken over atdifferent interchange points.The revenue generatedthrough these goods trains isRs 3458.27 crore. The totalloss of revenue over WesternRailway on account of CoronaVirus, has been approx. Rs2323 crore, which includesabout Rs 350 crore forsuburban section and approx.Rs 1973 crore for non-suburban. Inspite of this,resulting to cancellation oftickets since 1st March,2020 to27thAug, 2020, WesternRailway has ensured to returnrefund amount of Rs.420.19crore. It's worth mentioning thatin this refund amount, Mumbaidivision alone, has ensuredrefund of Rs 202.53 crore. Tillnow, 64.90 lakh passengershave cancelled their tickets overentire Western Railway & havereceived their refund amount

accordingly. Two Kolkata brothers murder thirdin 2014; surrender six years later

Kolkata, Two youngerbrothers, who allegedlymurdered their elder brothersix years ago, surrendered tothe police and confessed totheir crime out of repentancein West Bengal’s North 24Parganas on Friday. The two,Apu Sil and Tapu Sil, in theirlate 20s and early 30s,allegedly admitted to killingtheir elder brother, Nipu Sil, inDecember 2014.

“We have arrested twopersons who claimed that theyhave murdered their brothersix years ago. One of thebrothers told the police that hewas feeling repentant and thatis why they surrendered andconfessed [to the crime]. Askeleton has been exhumedfrom the backyard of theirhouse. Further investigation ison,” said a police officer.

According to thepreliminary policeinvestigation, the threebrothers lived in their ancestralhouse at Jagaddal in North 24Parganas. Nipu, the eldest ofthem, was a civil engineer, theother two were unemployed.

“Even though Nipu was thesole earning member in thefamily, the trio used to fightregularly over the ancestralproperty. One day we sawthey had left the house. Apuhad come once to clean thehouse and told the neighboursthat they had all settled inDelhi, Pune and Goa,” saidManik Deb, a local resident.

On Friday, Apu told policethat he and Tapu killed Nipuin December 2014 and buriedhim in the backyard of theirhouse. Neighbours said thatinitially, police thought that

Apu was mentally derangedand why else would heconfess to a crime he hadcommitted six years ago. Butwhen police inquired with theneighbours, they came toknow that the neighbours havenot seen Nipu for many years.It was then that police tookApu to the spot and exhumedthe body. “We will get to knowmore after we take thebrothers into our custody andinterrogate them. They wouldbe produced in the court today[Saturday],” said anotherofficer.
