National Foundation Skills Strategy for Adults
Focuses on improving outcomes for working age Australians (from 15 year
olds not in school up to 64 year olds) to enable them to participate in the
workforce, advance in their career and participate fully in the community.
Target: At least two thirds of working age Australians will have the literacy
and numeracy skills to participate in the workforce by 2022 (10 year strategy)

Foundation Skills Champions’ Network
Fifteen individuals from a diverse range of education and training
environments across Australia who will use their connections within the
education and training workforce and beyond to:
► champion the importance of foundation skills
► share information, advice and strategies.
► provide input into FSWD project activities
► support consultation and discussion processes
► share knowledge within their own personal and professional networks.
Updates on Network activity will be included in FSWD project e-newsletters.

Workforce Development Projects
Five projects managed by STAs:
► ACT: foundation skills, curriculum and vocational experts working
together to develop models for integrated delivery of FSK units
► NT: collaborative workshop approach to the development of integrated
assessment tools
► Tas: developing and evaluating a workshop and assessment model for
vocational practitioners to achieve TAELLN411
► SA: VET (Community Services) practitioners and LLN practitioners
collaborating to build skills and develop strategies for implementing the
FSK
► Qld: professional development pilots for VET in Schools providers and
community based organisations to build capacity to deliver the FSK
Scoping a Foundation Skills
Professional Standards Framework
Opportunity for those working in foundation skills to:
►explore options for developing professional standards
►define and strengthen the identity of the field
►advance the status and standing of the profession.

New Qualifications
The new unit TAELLN411 will become a core unit and replace
TAELLN401A which is currently an elective unit in TAE40110 Cert IV in
Training and Assessment
Note All VET practitioners who do not hold the LLN unit 401A or 411 by
June 2014 will be required to comply by June 2015.
New IBSA Skill Set: Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice,
comprises three units:
– TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
– TAELLN412 Access resources and support to address foundation skills
in vocational practice
– TAELLN413 Integrate foundation skills into vocational training delivery
New Qualifications
The TAE70111 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Adult Language,
Literacy and Numeracy Practice has now become:
TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and
Numeracy Practice
The TAE80110 Vocational Graduate Diploma of Adult Language,
Literacy and Numeracy Leadership has become:
TAE80213 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and
Numeracy Leadership
All are now available on training.gov.au as part of the NEW TAE Training
