Our colleagues are in Washington, D.C.right now and have shared breakingnews regarding a threat to the Supple-mental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP, or Food Stamp Program in NewYork).
This week, the Senate Agriculture Com-mittee has been working on a bill andsubsequent amendments that dictatefunding for SNAP and other nutritionassistance programs. This is the Agri-
culture Appropriations Bill for fiscal year2012.Senators Jeff Sessions (AL) and JimDeMint (SC), have proposed amend-ments to the Appropriations Bill thatwould make severe cuts to the SNAPthat would severely limit access, and/or reduce food stamp benefits this
fiscal year.
Millions of New Yorkers could be impact-ed by this proposal, increasing food in-security across the state.
