March Newsletter
This month, Lent is still in full swing. It is a season in the
church, filled with songs in minor keys, dark colors like purple and
black, and scripture passages that bring us ever closer to the
crucifixion.
The website “Old Lutheran.com” really got into the Lenten spirit
this year with their advertising. Their theme this year was “Walk
Dusty”. I was really excited when I read it because right there
underneath the “Walk Dusty” is a description of both the heart and
the reason we celebrate Lent.
You see we need Lent to remind us that it is the dust of life that
shapes us and forms us into resurrection people. That cross you
received on Ash Wednesday was the beginning of a journey that
leads to not only the cross, but the resurrection! So as each of you
continue on your Lenten journey I invite you to think about the dust
that has shaped and formed you, and what it means that the
resurrection is on the other side.
Grace and Peace to you!
Pastor Chris

The original budget that was presented at the Special congregational meeting on Sept 17, 2017
was the following:
Boiler Replacement $400,000
Restroom Improvements lower level $50,000
Refinish Exterior Rails $11,500
Fellowship Hall Flooring $20,000
Education Wing Classroom Windows $15,500
Total: 497,000
* At that time the congregation voted to approve financing an additional $500,000 to the exist-
ing mortgage (the building fund)
A financial discussion was held. DJ Campbell also stated that Dakota Community Bank has
also approved First Lutheran for a loan with a lower interest rates. He will request further de-
tails and about monthly payment amounts and 20 year loan vs a 25 year loan. It was deter-
mined that an additional $50,000.00 would be needed to cover the project costs and some of the
original improvements may have to put on hold if needed (possibly the fellowship hall flooring
and the exterior rails).
Tim Faller made a motion to accept the improvement plan and contract bids to include all
the alternate plans and bids and to propose an additional $50,000 be added to the original loan
amount of $500,000 and that this be presented to the congregation to approve at the Annual
Meeting on January 28, 2018 at 9:30 pm
Seconded by Wayne Friesz
Motion Passed
Pastor Lee Herberg will present the proposal to the congregation.
