1. THE SCOPE OF WORK SHALL BE TO PROVIDE A NEW EMERGENCY VOICE
AND ALARM COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (EVAC) FOR PORT CANAVERAL
WELCOME CENTER BUILDING, HEREAFTER REFERRED TO AS THE
PROJECT. ALARM FROM THE EVAC SHALL EVACUATE THE ENTIRE
BUILDING.
2. THESE DRAWINGS ARE CONCEPTUAL AND ARE INTENDED TO SHOW
GENERAL SYSTEM CONFIGURATION AND PERFORMANCE. NOT ALL
NECESSARY DEVICES AND COMPONENTS ARE SHOWN. CONTRACTOR
SHALL PROVIDE ALL DEVICES AND COMPONENTS FOR A FULLY
FUNCTIONAL, CODE COMPLIANT SYSTEM.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPARING SHOP
DRAWINGS, OBTAINING PERMITS, AND FOR FURNISHING AND INSTALLING
ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE AND
OPERATIONAL SYSTEM. ANY MODIFICATIONS TO APPROVED SHOP
DRAWINGS SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE OWNER.
4. ALL REFERENCES TO THE ENGINEER SHALL MEAN KOFFEL ASSOCIATES,
INC.
5. ALL REFERENCES TO THE OWNER SHALL MEAN CANAVERAL PORT
AUTHORITY.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE BETWEEN MECHANICAL,
ELECTRICAL, AND OTHER TRADES TO FACILITATE AN INSTALLATION WHICH
IS CONSISTENT WITH THE BUILDING DESIGN AND OVERALL GOAL OF
CONTINUOUS OPERATION. ANY CONDITIONS FOUND ON9SITE THAT
RESULT IN DEVIATIONS IN THE DESIGN DOCUMENTS MUST BE APPROVED
BY THE ENGINEER AND OWNER.
7. FIRE ALARM AND DETECTION SYSTEM DESIGN AND INSTALLATION SHALL
COMPLY WITH
9 FLORIDA BUILDING CODE, 2010 EDITION
9 NFPA 70, NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 2008 EDITION
9 NFPA 72, NATIONAL FIRE ALARM CODE, 2007 EDITION
9 FLORIDA FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 2010 EDITION
9 ALL MANUFACTURER'S REQUIREMENTS AND ALL APPLICABLE LOCAL
AND STATE CODES AND REGULATIONS
9 ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LISTED FOR USE ON COMMERCIAL FIRE
ALARM SYSTEMS
8. ALL AREAS PROVIDED WITH FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT SHALL BE ASSUMED
TO BE PROVIDED WITH A MINIMUM AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF 40
DEGREES AND BE FREE OF EXCESSIVE DUST PARTICLES OR HUMIDITY
LEVELS, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE.
9. REFER TO THE FIRE ALARM OPERATIONAL MATRIX ON SHEET FA94.0 FOR
SYSTEM FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS.
10. ALL NEW FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WIRING SHALL BE IN CONDUIT. SIZE OF
CONDUIT AND PERCENT FILL SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE INSTALLING
CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 70, THE
NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE, 2008 EDITION.
11. SYSTEM CIRCUITS SHALL CONFORM TO THE FOLLOWING:
SYSTEM RISER: CLASS A
SIGNALING LINE CIRCUITS: CLASS B
NOTIFICATION APPLIANCE CIRCUITS: CLASS B
INITIATING DEVICE CIRCUITS: CLASS B
12. ALL ADDRESSABLE CONTROL MODULES AND ADDRESSABLE MONITOR
MODULES SHALL BE LOCATED WITHIN 3 FEET OF THE ASSOCIATED
NON9INTELLIGENT DEVICE MONITORED OR CONTROLLED.
13. ALL FIRE ALARM CONDUIT AND JUNCTION BOXES SHALL BE INSTALLED AS
HIGH AS POSSIBLE. IN NO CASE SHALL ANY PORTION OF THE FIRE ALARM
WIRING BE INSTALLED BELOW THE BOTTOM HORIZONTAL PLANE OF
LIGHTING FIXTURES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF DROPS TO INDIVIDUAL FIRE
ALARM DEVICES AND PANELS. IN AREAS WITH SUSPENDED CEILINGS ALL
FIRE ALARM CONDUIT SHALL BE CONCEALED. PROVIDE ACCESS PANELS
FOR ALL CONCEALED FIRE ALARM DEVICES AND JUNCTION BOXES, WHERE
REQUIRED.
14. PROVIDE AN EMERGENCY VOICE ALARM COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
WITHIN AREA OF WORK. ALL AUDIBLE SPEAKER AND VISUAL STROBE
NOTIFICATION DEVICES SHALL BE WALL MOUNTED AT 96 INCHES ABOVE
THE FINISHED FLOOR OR CEILING MOUNTED, PER NFPA 72. NOTIFICATION
DEVICES SHALL BE INSTALLED NOT TO INTERFERE WITH EQUIPMENT.
15. A FULL ACCEPTANCE TEST OF ALL NEW FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
COMPONENTS IS REQUIRED AS PART OF THIS PROJECT. THIS SHALL
INCLUDE A FUNCTIONAL TEST OF 100% OF NEW INITIATING DEVICES, AS
WELL AS A TEST OF ALL INPUT/OUTPUT FUNCTIONS. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL ALSO TEST ALL NETWORK AND REPORTING CONDITIONS.
INSTALLING CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL MATERIALS AND
TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO PERFORM ACCEPTANCE TEST IN ACCORDANCE
WITH NFPA 72.
16. APPLY FOR, PAY FOR, AND OBTAIN ANY PERMITS, INSPECTIONS, AND
TESTING REQUIRED FOR THIS WORK.
17. UTILIZE WEATHERPROOF DEVICES IN AREAS EXPOSED TO THE OUTSIDE

1. PROVIDE NEW AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER PROTECTION AND AUTOMATIC WET STANDPIPES
THROUGHOUT THE PORT CANAVERAL WELCOME CENTER BUILDING. THIS SYSTEM SHALL BE
SUPPLIED FROM A NEW 8:INCH FIRE MAIN ROUTED TO THE FIRST FLOOR RISER ROOM UNDERNEATH
STAIR B. THE SCOPE OF WORK FOR THE BUILDING SPRINKLER SYSTEM STARTS WHEN THE
PIPE ENTERS THE FIRST FLOOR SLAB.
2. THE SCOPE OF WORK ALSO INCLUDES PROVIDING A PREFABRICATED EXTERNAL FIRE PUMP
HOUSE. PROVIDE EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL TO ACCEPT DELIVERY OF PUMP HOUSE AND
INSTALL ON:SITE WITH CRANE. PUMP HOUSE SHALL BE PLACED IN PREVIOUSLY PERMITTED
LOCATION. REFER TO SITE CIVIL DRAWINGS. REFER TO SPECIFICATION 213113, ELECTRICAL DRIVE
CENTRIFUGAL FIRE PUMPS, FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION. GENERAL CONTRACTOR SHALL
COORDINATE WITH SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR.
3. STANDPIPE HOSE OUTLETS SHALL BE ON THE INTERMEDIATE LANDINGS. STANDPIPE AND
SPRINKLER RISERS WILL BE COMBINED IN THE LOCATIONS SHOWN.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPARING SHOP DRAWINGS OBTAINING PERMITS AND
FOR FURNISHING AND INSTALLING ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE
AND OPERATIONAL SYSTEM AS DESCRIBED IN THE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT
DRAWINGS.
5. ALL REFERENCES TO THE ENGINEER SHALL MEAN KOFFEL ASSOCIATES.
6. ALL REFERENCES TO THE OWNER SHALL MEAN THE CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY.
7. ALL REFERENCES TO THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION (AHJ) SHALL MEAN THE STATE OF
FLORIDA AND THE CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY.
8. INSTALLATION OF ALL SPRINKLER AND STANDPIPE SYSTEM PIPING AND COMPONENTS SHALL BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING:
• NFPA 13, INSTALLATION OF SPRINKLER SYSTEMS, 2007 EDITION
• NFPA 14, INSTALLATION OF STANDPIPE AND HOSE SYSTEMS, 2008 EDITION
• FLORIDA FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 2010 EDITION
• FLORIDA BUILDING CODE, 2010 EDITION
• THE MANUFACTURER'S REQUIREMENTS AND PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS
• ALL APPLICABLE STATE CODES AND REGULATIONS
9. SPRINKLER SPACING AND HYDRAULIC DESIGN CRITERIA HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY NFPA 13 FOR
THE HAZARD PROTECTED. THE FOLLOWING DESIGN CRITERIA APPLIES:
OFFICES, AUDITORIUM, STAIRS, RESTROOMS : LIGHT HAZARD AT 0.10 GPM/SQ.FT OVER 1,500 SQ.FT,
100 GPM OUTSIDE HOSE DEMAND.
MECHANICAL ROOMS, ELECTRICAL ROOMS, EXHIBIT SPACES, STORAGE ROOMS : ORDINARY
HAZARD GROUP I AT 0.15 GPM/SQ.FT OVER 1,500 SQ.FT, 250 GPM OUTSIDE HOSE DEMAND.
PER SECTION 11.2.3.2.3 OF NFPA 13, A REDUCTION IN THE DESIGN AREA UP TO 40% IS PERMITTED
BASED ON CEILING HEIGHT WHERE LISTED QUICK RESPONSE SPRINKLERS ARE UTILIZED.

SEE THE CIVIL DRAWINGS FOR THE LOCATION AND FURTHER DETAILS ON THE WATER SUPPLY AND
UNDERGROUND PIPE ROUTING. CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM ANOTHER FLOW TEST TO VERIFY
RESULTS ONCE NEW HYDRANTS ARE INSTALLED OR PRIOR TO SIZING FIRE PUMP.
11. ALL WORK SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE OWNER AND THEIR DESIGNATED PROJECT MANAGER.
12. ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE LISTED BY A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TESTING LABORATORY FOR USE
ON COMMERCIAL FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS.
13. SPRINKLERS TYPES SHALL BE AS INDICATED IN THE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS. CORROSION
RESISTANT SPRINKLERS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN AREAS SUBJECT TO HIGH HUMIDITY, INCLUDING
EXTERIOR AREAS, OR OTHER CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENTS.
14. SPRINKLER AND STANDPIPE SYSTEM PIPE AND FITTINGS SHALL MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
o PIPE SIZES 2" AND SMALLER: SCHEDULE 40, BLACK STEEL, MEETING ASTM A53 SPECIFICATIONS,
CONNECTED WITH THREADED FITTINGS.
o PIPE SIZES 2:1/2" AND LARGER: SCHEDULE 10, BLACK STEEL, MEETING ASTM A135 OR A795
SPECIFICATIONS, CONNECTED WITH LISTED GROOVED COUPLINGS.
15. PIPE FITTINGS SHALL INCLUDE:
o THREADED FITTINGS FOR SCHEDULE 40 PIPE SHALL CONFORM WITH SECTION 6.4 (4.3) OF NFPA
13 (NFPA 14).
o ROLL GROOVED FITTINGS FOR SCHEDULE 10 PIPE SHALL BE UL LISTED. COUPLING SHALL
COMPLY WITH ASTM A536, AND A183 SPECIFICATIONS WITH GRADE E, TYPE A GASKETS. ALL
COMPONENTS SHALL BE FROM A SINGLE MANUFACTURER.
16. PROVIDE AN ISOLATION VALVE FOR EACH STANDPIPE AT THE BULK FEED CONNECTION.
17. ALL NECESSARY CONNECTIONS TO THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE MADE BY AND
COORDINATED WITH THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR. SYSTEM ACCEPTANCE TESTS SHALL BE
CONDUCTED BY THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR AND THE OWNER.
18. AUXILIARY DRAINS ARE NOT SHOWN ON THESE DRAWINGS. LOCATIONS OF AUXILIARY DRAINS
SHALL BE DETERMINED BY CONTRACTOR WHERE A CHANGE IN PIPING DIRECTION PREVENTS
DRAINAGE OF THE SYSTEM PIPING THROUGH THE MAIN DRAIN VALVE. SIGNS SHALL BE PROVIDED
TO INDICATE AUXILIARY DRAINS. AUXILLARY DRAINS SHALL NOT BE LOCATED IN PUBLIC AREAS,
FOR EXAMPLE CORRIDORS OR WAITING AREAS.
19. UPON COMPLETION OF EACH OPERATIONAL PORTION OF THE SYSTEM INSTALLATION, HYDROSTATIC
TESTING SHALL BE CONDUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13 AND WITNESSED BY THE AHJ.
20. ALL FIRE SUPPRESSION WORK SHALL BE INSPECTED BY THE OWNERS DESIGNATED
REPRESENTATIVE
21. ALL HANGERS SHALL BE LISTED FOR USE WITH SPRINKLER SYSTEMS. HANGER INSTALLATION AND
SPACING SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13.
22. PENETRATION OF FIRE:RATED ASSEMBLIES SHALL BE SEALED BY THE CONTRACTOR WITH A LISTED
THROUGH:PENETRATION SYSTEM APPROPRIATE FOR THE RATING OF THE WALL PENETRATED.
COORDINATE THESE LOCATIONS WITH THE LIFE SAFETY PLANS.
23. AT ROOF LEVEL, DO NOT SUPPORT SPRINKLER PIPE FROM BOTTOM CHORDS OF ROOF BAR JOIST
