Dear Friends, God loves messed up people. The Bible proves it. This means God loves you and me! Abraham and Sarah serve as a biblical example of God’s gracious love. This couple has faith; yet they are, nevertheless, significantly messed up. Last weekend at church, we examined one example of God’s longsuffering love from the life of these fore-founders described in Genesis 16: God’s Plan
in Messy Times. This week in worship we will conclude our summer examination of the life of Abraham with a message from Genesis 17 I call Laughing with God. This Sunday we will also have the opportunity to pray for Peter Tupou and give him our thanks as he transfers to a staff position at the UCC congregation. Peter will sing for us the Lord’s Prayer in worship. See you in church,
Steve

FAMILY MINISTRIES CORNER In this picture from
“Walk Thru the
Bible,” this man is
showing us “One
Yawn” (1 John),
and he’s checking
out a Fellowship
Barometer, the key
word. First John
provides a test of
true fellowship—
with God and with other believers. Written by the apostle John,
this letter confronts Gnosticism—a heretical belief denying the
reality of Christ and salvation through Him—which was emerging
in John’s day. He exposes false teachers, and assures believers
that their salvation in Christ is true and secure.
To learn more about the Book of 1 John, check out Pastor
Steve's blog at StevenJayDavis.com… and be sure to join us in
church on Sunday, too!

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DAVID FREELAND
Dave Freeland passed away this month. He was a resident of
Plymouth Village and attended the 8:30 a.m. service here at FCC.
We offer our condolences to his son Steve, his daughter Karen,
and all his family and friends. The memorial service for David
Freeland will be held here at the church on Saturday, September
17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
A NOTE FROM LEONETTE DIMURO ABOUT OUR NEW AEDs
We want to thank the Women's Fellowship for purchasing 2
automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for the church.
AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the average lay person,
with easy audio and visual commands. On average, only 7% of
sudden cardiac arrest victims in the United States survive. If only
20% of these persons could survive, 50,000 lives could be saved
each year. Studies have shown that if a cardiac arrest victim is
shocked with a defibrillator within the first minute of collapse, the
chances for survival are close to 90%.
We owe a big debt of gratitude to Ken Clark for creating the
beautiful wooden housing for the AED, located at the back of the
Sanctuary, next to the hall to the Chapel above the fire
extinguisher. The other AED is located in the First Aid cabinet, to
the right of the stage in Kimberly Hall. Thank you to the ushers who
attended our first aid/CPR class and learned how to use the AED.
We will be scheduling another class soon for anyone; else who
wishes to learn about this life-saving device; we especially
encourage anyone who is or who has been CPR certified to
attend. There will be a sign-up sheet for all persons interested. In
fact, if you are or have been CPR certified, please speak with
Leonette DiMuro at (909) 794-1544. She would like to compile a
Resource List for our congregation.

KIRK NIGHT
We will hold another Kirk Night on Wednesday, September 7 at
6:00 p.m. in Kimberly Hall for dinner and 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel
for singing and discussion. Please sign up on the clipboard if
you’d like to come for dinner. After that, the regularly scheduled
Kirk Nights will not resume until October.
On September 7, Ed Yarnelle will be performing “Organ Symphony
#2” by C. M. Widor, which reflects Widor’s dramatic style. The
PRELUDE opens with full dramatic seriousness, pulsating rhythms
and dark colors. The PASTORALE signals the light-hearted humor
and carefree spirits of the common gentry. It also includes a hymn
of praise to God for the beauty of nature. The ANDANTE begins
with a beautiful melody which is repeated. A dialogue
progresses between this melody and other voices from the organ.
The SCHERZO is a dancing gig and all the parts of the organ need
to take their turn. The ADAGIO returns to the symphony’s opening
seriousness but on a lighter and quieter plane. As a meditation,
the strings encourage us to think of celestial thoughts. The FINALE
is a turbulent toccata. With sheer driving force, the whole
orchestra and its many voices are now speaking together with
one unified declaration. A joyous ending. Please join us for this
very special musical program!
FAREWELL TO PETER TUPOU
Peter Tupou, our choir sectional leader, soloist
and youth volunteer, will be taking a part-time
staff position at the United Church of Christ of
Redlands beginning the second week of
September. We will miss him dearly at our
church. We extend our thanks to Peter for his
grace. Through him, Christ’s love has met our life. We will offer our
thanks to Peter in worship and at our fellowship hour on
September 4, 2016.
