THE TEACHER’S PRAYER

O Lord of learning and of all learners,We are best but blunderers in this Godlike business

off teachingOur shortcomings blame us, for we are not alone in

paying the penalty for themWe nave schooled our students to be clever

competitors of the world as it is, when we should have been helping them to become creative

cooperators in the making of the world as it ought to be

We have regarded our school as training camps for existing to the exclusion of making them working

models for an evolving society.Help us to be more interested in stimulating the

building of the modern cathedrals than in retailing to students the glories of ancient temples

Give us to see that a student’s memory should be a tool as well as a treasure chest

Help us to realize that in the deepest sense we cannot teach anybody anything, that the best we ca

do is to help him learn himselfGive us a reverence for our materials that we may

master the fruits of our particular fieldsHelp us to see that education but the adventure of trying to make ourselves at home in the modern

world

Page 5: Field Study 103

May we be shepherds of the spirit as well as the masters of the mind?

Give us o Lord of teachers, a sense of divinity in our undertaking. Amen.

STUDENT’S PRAYER

Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom,

origin of all being, graciously let a ray of your light penetrate

the darkness of my understanding.

Take from me the double darknessin which I have been born,

an obscurity of sin and ignorance.

Give me a keen understanding,a retentive memory, andthe ability to grasp things

correctly and fundamentally.

Grant me the talentof being exact in my explanationsand the ability to express myselfwith thoroughness and charm.

Page 6: Field Study 103

Point out the beginning, direct the progress,

and help in the completion.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.Amen.

– Printed Resources may be use in researches for all subjects.

– It can also be use as a past time in reading fictional stories.

2. Audio – Visual Resources

Television

– It provides animations and movements for easier understanding.

– This material can be use in making movie report or in following instructions in dancing.

3. Non – electronic Visual Resources

Maps Globes

– As the teacher discusses the lesson students can visualize what the teacher is taking all about.

– For easier visualization

4. ICT Resources Computer

– Provides almost all information in the world.

– Easier access to all information needed especially in English.

Impression: The library of Tagudin National High School provides almost all needed resources by the students, but it would be better if the computer is connected to the net.

Analysis

1. Were the learning resources/materials arranged properly according to their functions and characteristics?

Yes, they are arranged accordingly and vey convenience to use.

2. Do the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the material by the teachers? Why? Why not?

Yes, the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the material by the teacher.

3. What are its weaknesses?

There are small numbers of books in the library and not all students have the opportunity to take home the books.

4. What suggestion can you make? More books and visual resources must be produced to

facilitate learning.

Reflection

1. Which of the materials in the learning resource caught your interest the most? Why?

The materials or illustrations displayed in every side of the wall because the students can remember it more easily and can help grasp the information.

2. Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use or operate?

Page 19: Field Study 103

The materials that I am confident to use in the subject Science are: the use of different figures or models related to understand Biology, the computer and the microscope.

3. Which ones do you feel you need to learn more about?

I want to add my knowledge in making use of the Microsoft Power Point because it’s one of my weaknesses in terms of computer.

Page 25: Field Study 103

Analysis

1. Did the board display design reflect the likes/interest of its target audience? Why? Why not?

Yes, the bulletin board displays reflect the likes and interest of its target audience because it provides information that may benefit the target audience that may be able to pass on into their home or in the community.

2. Was the language used clear and simple for the target audience to understand? Why? Why not?

Yes, because most of the students know how to read the cursive hand writing and the information written on the bulletin shows simple information.

3. What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was it effective? Why? Why not?

To inform all the student and the Teaching Staff as well the activities of the month. Yes of course because all of the readers are passing the information conveyed by the board.

4. What suggestion can you make?

It is much attractive if the writing on the board is made up of letter cuttings and shows up a

Page 26: Field Study 103

picture of the information being conveyed to the audience.

Page 27: Field Study 103

Reflections:

1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed.

To cope up with effective board display a teacher should have the following:

Considerate – taking into account the varied needs of the target audience, the currency of the materials used, and the timeliness of the displays.

Creativity – the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas or things, making the bulletin board attractive.

Resoursefulness – making use of available resouces and making indegenous materials into very useful one.

Artistic – the sence of balance, unity and harmony must be takent into account.

Smart – being intelligent and knowing the correctness of the display.

2. Which of the skills do you already have? Recall your past experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?

The aces that I got are perseverance and patience in doing arts and being creative, resourceful and being artistics are the skills that I possess. I can improve these skills in putting it on practice. In making projects, being creative and artistic are applied. While being resourceful is enhance in making visual aids, using recyclable materials.

3. Which skills do you still need to develop? Reflect on how you can improve on or acquire these skills.

Page 28: Field Study 103

The skills that I need to develop are to be confident enough in what I am doing and be considerate is to what other people suggestion to the art I am doing. I can improve this skill through keen observation and asking the opinions of the target audience.

just post the ready made material and the students can immediately proceed in answering the question.

Analysis

1. Were the learning resources/materials arranged properly according to their functions and characteristics?

The teacher chooses flashcards and readymade material to facilitate time in order for them to discuss more.

2. What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How can this be managed?

Some students are hard up in manipulating a microscope. The teacher’s strategy to overcome this is to give the students enough time to manipulate and practice on how to use the microscope

3. Over – all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not?

Page 32: Field Study 103

The materials used are very effective, for they involve the students in the discussion

Reflection

1. Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what would you do differently if you will teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why?

If I would be the teacher, I would do the same. In science, involving the students in the discussion helps them a lot. As in the law of exercise of Thorndike, applying what have learned helps retain the facts that have been gained.

Description of the Classroom Handouts/Workbook

Kalikasan is a magazine which contain different information. It includes the discoveries of Scientists, trivia about Science, there is

also a featured destination to be visited, information about diseases and fearured a Teacher whom who help or discover about Science.

This magazaine is about ten pages. At the back portion of the magazine are question about the content. There is also a cross word puzzle included to asses students if they really read the articles in

the magazine. The price of the magazine is Php 20.00.

Strengths and weaknesses of Classroom Handouts

The magazine is one of the richest in information and updates about Science. You may read seven or more information. And just

like book you can go over and over again when you miss something in the cross-word puzzle or the identification at the back of the

magazine. This is very affordable for every student.

The weakness of the magazine is the font size used is small to read. Yes it is true that it has many information but the students had a hard time reading it because of the small font size. It is easy to be

crumpled too. Topic present in the present issue has no follow up to the next issue.

Personal Reflections:

The Field Study 103(Technology in the Learning Environment) helps me to identify the need and dynamics in teaching learning process. This course that is very useful for pre – service teachers and also to the Teachers to widen their knowledge regarding the modern technology to use in teaching students.

Making out this piece, I observed that the use of modern technology in teaching is very effective to the students but it takes much time to prepare all the resources to put up the modern technology. For the mean time and for more effective teaching-learning process, I must prepare a lesson plan well and use instructional materials in order for the learning to takes place more attractable to students.
