I write this letter on my first day back in the office after the Sunday in which I issued the challenge
to spend at least as much time reading Scripture and praying in the morning as you spent on social
media the day before. I confess, I am not a morning person and the idea of getting up earlier than
usual was not appealing to me. So I decided to greatly, and I do mean greatly, curtail my time on
social media. In fact, I didn’t get on it all yesterday, other than to check a private message that was
sent to me via Facebook. And let me tell you, it was wonderful. By starting my day off with prayer and
Scripture, and not having been distracted with social media for over 24 hours, I had a genuine sense
of peace. To stay on track with our Psalm 23 series, I truly felt God restoring my soul!
The problem came today at lunch. Out of habit, I checked my Facebook feed after eating. I only
spent about five minutes briefly scrolling, but that’s all it took. It’s amazing how, as little as five
minutes of reading people rant, complain, name-call, etc., can really ruin your peace. And keep in
mind, the vast majority of my friends on Facebook are from churches in which I’ve served. That’s right,
“good church folk” are ranting, complaining, and sometimes even name-calling on social media. Folks,
as James would say, “This should not be.”
Thankfully, due to my time spent in the Word and prayer this morning, I was able to quickly
recognize what was happening, so I put my phone away. And don’t you know it, the daily Scriptures
that popped up on my email each day were just what the doctor ordered (or in this case, the Great
Physician). The first Scripture was from the Beatitudes when Jesus said, as part of his Sermon on the
Mount, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9) The
second one was, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)
Since I’m writing this the day after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, some of his beautiful and
prophetic words were already on my mind. So when I read the verse about “walking in the light,” I
immediately thought of King’s famous quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do
that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” I think we need to remind ourselves of these
words (Scripture and Dr. King) now more than ever. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are children of the
Light. We walk in the Light. We are to have fellowship with one another. We are to be peacemakers.
That is not to say that we will always agree with one another. But it is to say that we must not be
hateful toward one another. I was further convicted by my morning Scripture reading from
1 Thessalonians when I read, “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be
kind to each other and to everyone else.” (1 Thessalonians 5:15)
I can tell you that I’m already feeling better than I did at lunch. By focusing on God, and reviewing
and quoting scripture, I’m feeling that sense of peace return. I highly encourage you to take my initial
challenge to heart. Don’t be legalistic about it. Just focus on spending less time on social media and
more time in prayer and the Word. If you do, I’m more confident than ever in the promise I made to
you the Sunday morning I proposed this challenge: your soul will be restored.
The peace of Christ be with you,
Pastor Mick

Lent Sermon Series and Community Group Study
THE EASTER EXPERIENCE Join us for this sermon series and study starting February 21, 2021
The “Easter Experience” brings the passion, and resurrection of Jesus, to life through dramatic
storytelling and challenging teaching done in a highly cinematic style. Through these in-depth
teachings, the congregation and community groups will grow spiritually, bonding with each
other as well as with the eternal message of Easter.
What if what happened then changes everything now?
Once you experience the story of Easter, absolutely everything in your life changes.
So, beginning February 21, we’ll begin our six-week sermon series that will allow us to journey
with Jesus in His final days. Let’s experience the Lent Season and Easter together.
Join a community group and come for worship starting February 21 and learn what it means to
follow Jesus in a whole new way.

CarePartners is a ministry that provides intentional care to others.
A CarePartner is someone that walks alongside those who are
hurting, who feel lonely or discouraged, and those who need
prayer, a listening ear, or an encouraging word. A CarePartner is a
spiritual friend who may be present in person, by phone, and/or
through a card in the mail. There is no age limit; only a God given
desire to have a new friend or be a friend maker.
CarePartners also support one another as friends and mentors. A
meeting and an occasional seminar with guest speakers and
teaching will help us to keep our skill set sharp.
To be a CarePartner, or to be connected to a CarePartner, call/text/email Dean Bachelor at
740-746-9151 or [email protected], or through the church office at 419-586-6621.

looking for safe and effective ways to stay in touch!

A NOTE FROM BRENDA MCGEE:
Wow! What a year it has been for all of us. Last year at this time, I was excited to share about
our 10th Anniversary celebration, and just like that, we were faced with no social gatherings. So,
we altered our way of serving to keep the ministry going. I'm blessed to share with you that we
have met some new people who had never heard about the ministry and we have increased the
number of meals served to 140-150 each week. We miss seeing all of the servants and guests
who are unable to come during the current times. If you know of anyone that needs a meal,
please share that we are at the church nearly every Saturday morning, serving from 10:00-
11:30am. If you are interested in volunteering (masks must be worn), please call the church
office for more details. Thanks to each and every person who has made this ministry successful
in serving others.

Pick up your soup on Souper Bowl Sunday, February 7
from 9:30am-12:00noon at St. Paul's Fellowship
Hall. Ordered soup will also be taken to Montezuma on
that Sunday.
THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who donated pajamas, socks, diapers
and wipes. We were able to donate 6 large bags full to Mercer
County Job and Family Services for the children in Foster Care.
Last year’s “Create a Bowl “and Dinner Auction raised $27,500, but the event scheduled for the
Spring 2021 had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. This makes individual donations especially
important to this year’s efforts in “Filling Mercer County’s Empty Bowls”
Please visit the OUR HOME FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER Facebook page to donate this year.
100% of your donations go directly to OUR HOME, and funds are used throughout the year to
help people find shelter from domestic abuse, keep roofs over their heads, put food on their
table, and mend relationships with their children.
If you would like to help out this year, please
visit the Facebook page or call Our Home Family
Resource Center at 419-586-4663.

We did not get to go on the ASP mission trip in the Summer of 2020 because of the COVID
virus. However, we were able to serve locally by building a cabin at the Hand-Up Village on the
property of the Lord’s Abounding Grace Church just north of town.
We do not know if we will be able to go this Summer or not. It will be decided depending on
whether the virus is contained yet. The dates are listed below, and we will have a sign-up sheet
on the bulletin board across from the lounge on the second floor sometime in mid-February.
ASP is for seven weeks in the Summer, (we plan to go for two weeks). The trips this year are
June 20 to June 26 for Junior High and July 4 to July 10 for Senior High.
When we go to ASP, the houses we work on are already decided upon by the center staff. We
arrive at a central location on Sunday afternoon (usually a school) and set up our quarters for
the week. Sometimes we sleep in classrooms and sometimes in the gymnasium on cots or
mattresses that we bring with us. We use the school showers, or if there are none, the staff sets
up temporary showers outside, or we drive to a different location such as a YMCA. We usually
eat breakfast and supper at the school cafeteria with meals provided by local cooks hired for
the Summer. We pack a lunch to take with us and spend the day at our site working on the
house we were assigned. We then come back to the center and shower, do clean up chores,
eat and have an evening devotional time. Then, on Saturday, we come back home.
This is just a brief description of what happens each
week of mission. For more information, you can check
out the ASP website at asphome.org. Contact Mark
Armstrong at 567-644-8348 or Jerry or Tammy Barger
at 419-586-7626, and we would be glad to answer any
questions about these trips.

What’s Love Got
To Do With It?
February is known as the "month

angles. Youth will learn about
God’s love for them, their love
for God and their love for others.

During the season of Lent, the Youth will gather at 6:30am
for breakfast and devotions every Tuesday morning,
beginning February 23, in the Prayer

Fellowship Hall for breakfast.
Please bring a few dollars to cover
meal costs. Transportation to school
is available if needed.

participate in our annual Progressive
Dinner. Youth should meet at the Greenhouse

dressed up. Please sign up on the church app
or website by Sunday, February 14. The event
will end around 8:30pm at the
Greenhouse. Friends are welcome!
Sunday Youth Small Group
Come to the Greenhouse on Sunday
Mornings from 9:15-10:15am. We will
discuss the study from RightNow
Media, “Prayer” by Francis Chan.
Donuts are provided. We will meet
February 7 and 21.
Lakeside
There will be an informational meeting for all those interested in attending Senior High
Lakeside on Sunday, February 7 at the Greenhouse at 12:00pm. Sr. High Lakeside will be
June 19-25. This camp is for students who are current 8th-12th Graders, and the cost is
$415 (due by May 12). A $75 deposit is to be paid by March 21 to reserve a spot.
The following are the guidelines that we have been given from Lakeside for Youth on how
they anticipate camp working this year:
Face masks will be required at all times in common areas such as South Auditorium and
Wesley Lodge, unless actively eating or drinking.
Youth leaders will be taking everyone's temperature in the morning before leaving their
house.
Everyone will bring their own chairs to use in South Auditorium, and then take their
chair with them when they leave.
Social distancing in South Auditorium will be followed as needed and allowed.
We will provide hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes in South Auditorium.
South Auditorium will be disinfected after group use.
Table groups in Wesley Lodge will be by church so that
everyone is eating with the same people they are staying with
for the week.
Interest Groups will meet by church. More on this at a later date.
