Entry #1 WGSN – January 29, 2013 The WGSN website is essen@ally organized into three major pull-‐down tabs: ‘Inspira@on and Design,’ ‘Insight and Analysis,’ and ‘Product Categories.’ Above these tabs is another row of categorized informa@on: ‘News,’ ‘City by city,’ ‘Catwalks,’ and ‘WGSN Archive.’
This website is useful to the fashion industry because it reports on all aspects of the industry (i.e. the latest runway shows, advances in marke@ng, fine arts’ influence on fashion) in a clear and organized way, making the informa@on easily accessible.
“Travelers and the travel industry beyond 2012” is an ar@cle about the changes and growth in the travel industry. As fashion and hotels merge, travel is being thought of as “an a)rac@ve extension of the brand experience.” Leisure @me is a luxury that is now, more than ever, being marketed toward sophis@cated consumers. Travelers today want authen@c experiences tailored to their interests and values. People are now looking more at sites like VRBO (vaca@on rental by owner) and airbnb to rent a person’s home, rather than choosing to stay in a homogenized hotel that would look the same in Beijing as it does in Texas. This ar@cle made me very excited about the improvements being made in the travel industry as a result of the consumer’s changes in demands. S@mula@ng, authen@c experiences are the whole point of travelling. People are not afraid of trying new things and immersing themselves in a new culture. It makes sense that the fashion and hotel industry would merge because any loca@on a traveler is visi@ng has certainly been shaped by that culture’s art, architecture, and fashion.

Entry #2 History – February 4, 2013 In the past few years, the harem pant has grown in popularity. It has a dropped crotch, with pleats,
gathering at the waist, and a tapered leg. This silhoue)e has been in the collec@ons of Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Gucci and manufactured for the masses at stores like H&M.
To my knowledge, this is the first major resurgence of the harem pant since it was first introduced to the western world by Parisian fashion designer Paul Poiret in 1911 (according to the Merriam Webster dic@onary). The original look is much more billowy and begins to taper lower down on the leg or ankle. Now there are many versions of this silhoue)e, ohen skinnier in the calf, shorter in the leg – consciously crea@ng feminine a shape, as opposed to hiding the shape of the body.
Entry #3 – February 12, 2013 Norma Quinto’s ar@cle, “Jeans Enter the Beauty Domain” on the WWD website is about the sudden trend among brands to create a line of “therapeu@c” jeans. Wrangler’s Denim Spa Therapy for Legs and Mohicano’s Denim Therapy line have aloe vera in their jeans to moisturize consumers’ legs. Some lines claim their jeans will reduce cellulite caused by the other kind of genes. Italian brand, LeRock is even bolder, sta@ng their denim makes you lose weight simply by wearing them...of course, aher buying them. Along with phrases like “microcapsules” and “complex cosme@cs” are words like “organic” and “pollutants” as if the jeans are part of the whole eco/green/vegan/organic lifestyle. However, the descrip@on of the jeans had me more suspicious of them than a bowl of pes@cide-‐y fruit. I can’t imagine who would buy into this odd campaign. In my opinion, the best way to avoid pollutants and harmful chemicals is by ea@ng organic fruit and buying a pair of regular old jeans. And if their jean sales aren’t doing well, perhaps LeRock can just make them fit my big hips a li)le be)er.

Entry #4 Men’s Trend – February 19, 2013
A fashion trend in the men’s market I have no@ced recently is the peek-‐a-‐boo ankle. The trend looks like this: a man wearing low top converse or boat shoes (or any shoe that doesn’t have a high rise), no socks, pants rolled up about three to four inches, baring a whole lot of ankle. It is the man’s answer to the cut-‐out trend that is all the rage in women’s fashion at the moment. One could find this look on American hipsters, European men of all ages, Fashionistos, and even granola-‐types! I think this look is a)rac@ve. A few years back, men were wearing unse)ling, deep V-‐necks, in an a)empt to show some skin, as many men and women are want to do. However, the V-‐neck was a creepy fail, whereas this peek-‐a-‐boo ankle is a sexy, fashion-‐forward success! God job, boys! I interviewed a Fashionisto on the street to ask him why he enjoys partaking in this trend. A stoic, med student, he could only tell me that he thought it “looked nice” and felt he “had more freedom” going sockless, and leong some of his leg-‐skin breathe.
Entry #5 New Movie – February 26, 2013
Aher watching all the movies that are up for awards this season, I feel the one film that could set a trend, or rather bring a trend back, is Argo. Men -‐ and boys who can -‐ will be growing the Argo Moustache. Although the character Hushpuppy, from Beasts of the Southern Wild, was much more daring in her ensemble which consisted of underpants and rain boots, and Bradley Cooper did a wonderful job of making a garbage bag look sporty chic in Silver Linings Playbook, Ben Affleck and other members of the cast sported much more a)ainable 80’s style facial hair. Audiences will be inspired by the story of these ordinary people who found themselves in extraordinary circumstances and acted heroically. When people want to emulate a person they admire, the easiest way to do it, is dress like them…or be mustachioed like them
