Retention / Follow-along Services
• Retention is critical to keeping the job!
• To ensure services, include the local Developmental Disabilities organization in the program design
• Interns need to complete eligibility process for DD services
• Remember there is an appeal process if denied eligibility

Retention / Follow Along
• If your intern is not eligible for DD services, there may be other options.• Ticket-to-Work can provide funds for retention• PASS plans can be written to set aside funds for
coaching• Mental Health agencies can provide some support if
there are related issues• Vocational Rehabilitation may be able to re-open the
case for additional training to save the job or to learn new tasks

Career Development
• What if your young adult wants a new job?• Work with the original VR Counselor – they might re-
open the case and fund job development.• VR will probably fund additional coaching if the student
gets new duties or a new job within the same organization.
• The student can advocate for themselves through HR at his/her place of employment.

Relationships
• Peer relationships at work• Encourage natural work
friendships• Talk about what is appropriate
• Friendships outside of work• Disability-related community
resources and organizations• Typical community resources

Guardianships, Trusts and Wills
• There are laws around these processes.
• Get legal advice appropriate to your situation.

• Utilize your networks and local resources to address challenges
• Contact Project SEARCH staff for connections and assistance.
• Celebrate employment and other successes with your young adult!
