The Liberty House Board of Directors has hired Alison Kelley to become its new Chief Executive Officer. Alison will step down from her current position as the Marion County Community Services Director Tuesday, September 3, 2013, and will begin her new role with Liberty House on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.
Alison is a lawyer who has broad experience in helping organizations achieve their objectives. She was appointed to serve as the Marion County Children and Families Commission Director in May of 2008, and was retained when the county reorganized the department into the Community Services Department in July 2012. From 1999 – 2008 she was an attorney and mediator in private practice and provided mediation, facilitation, team building and strategic planning for a wide range of public and private agencies. She holds a BA in history with a minor in political science (Willamette University), and a JD and Certificate in Dispute Resolution (Willamette University College of Law). She
has also served as an adjunct associate professor of Public Administration for the Executive Leadership Institute of Portland State University’s Hatfield School of Government.
Alison has provided many types of consultation and assistance to nonprofit organizations throughout the last fifteen years, and assisted Liberty House with strategic planning in 2006-07. She is a passionate advocate for children, youth and families.
“I am deeply honored to join the Liberty House team, and I am looking forward to working for a great organization that provides such critical services to the children and families of Marion and Polk Counties,” said Kelley. “At the same time, it has been a privilege to serve as the Children and Families Commission and the Community Services Department Director for Marion County and I will miss working with such wonderful people.”
The Liberty House Board of Directors believes that Alison’s community relationships and her

As we welcome our new CEO to Liberty House, I couldn’t be more energized and excited. Alison brings a wealth of knowledge, community connections and skills that will help take Liberty House to the next level. I’m looking forward to returning to my former role as Development Officer (and to a little break with my maternity leave) and having the opportunity to work with Alison and learn from her.
I’m also anticipating another outstanding Liberty House Champions for Children Luncheon in a few weeks – the one event each year when we get to open our hearts about what happens here with those who already stand with us, as well as with the larger community that we invite to join us in our work. We also have a chance to
convey our thanks to you for caring so deeply about the children and families we see now and those we will be able to help in the months ahead with your support. Our theme this year is “Ending the Loss of Innocence,” and I am excited to convey how the work we do at Liberty House, with the community’s support, helps to stop and prevent children being hurt and having their innocence stolen from them.
It has been an honor to serve Liberty House and the community in my role as Interim Executive Director. I’ve learned so much, and I hope I have made a difference. Thank you for your support. I can hardly wait to see what’s ahead as I continue my work with you all as I return to my former position.

In August, we enjoyed celebrating all of our fabulous volunteers with a pizza dinner out on our patio...a fun night appreciating the company of our volunteer family. Adrienne Christian, the Liberty House volunteer Coordinator, talked about the importance 1,800 hours of volunteer time made over the last year. Our volunteers help with events, reduce our overhead, and enrich our work environment with so many wonderful skills and fabulous personalities!
