Contact DermatitisMost cases have an outbreak before the age of 5.

It is not contagious.

Females are slightly more likely than males to get AD.

It can be hereditary, and asthma and hay fever in the family mean higher risk.

Location can increase risk for AD, and it is thought to have ties to polution.

There are two types: Allergic Contact Dermatitis and Irritant Contact Dermatitis

Most people get contact dermatitis at least once.

It is the most common workplace illness.

People who work with their hands such as construction, cosmotologists, and chefs are at higher risk.

A family history of eczema, asthma, or hay fever can mean a higher risk of developing eczema at some point. If both parents are aected, there is an

80% chance their ospring will inherit it.

The Stress FactorStress causes inammation. This is an evolutionary reaction that is meant to protect the skin, but can cause unwanted outbreaks at times of high stress.

Contact Dermatitis

Irritant

Allergic

Contact dermatitis is the most common work place illness, and eects nearly everyone at some

point in their life.

Irritant contact dermatitis is caused by chemicals such as soaps, household cleaners, and other chemical based

substances which form a rash on the skin.

Allergic contact dermatitis is another type of contact dermatitis, which forms a rash caused by allergens.

Poison ivy is an example of a common allergen that aects many people.

TreatmentThough many people outgrow eczema after infancy,

there is no cure for chronic eczema. However, there are preventative treatments and

measures that can be taken to help prevent outbreaks.

Moisturize daily

Wear soft fabrics

Trim ngernails

Consult with an allergy doctor

or dermatologist

Daily moisturizing will help prevent the skin from drying out and

cracking.

Wear soft fabrics such as cotton and avoid scratchy and rough bers that can further irritate an already

sensitive skin.

Keep nger nails short and avoid scrathing when

possible to prevent infection and irritation.

There are numerous prescription skin

treatments that can help, as well as allergy tests

that can help to identify your triggers.
