AGE & GENDER
Our production includes a middle-aged male who is stereotypically wearing a black suit. The stereotype of a smartly dressed male figure, is common among psychological thrillers. This also puts him in a more
stereotypically dominant role, despite there not being any actual shots to show he is (eg. High angle over his shoulder, low angle onto the women.) His dominance is shown through his calm control over
the situation. The other character is a woman, presented in a
hoodie and large hoop earrings. They are complete contrasts to each other. The woman is potentially presented as an archetype of teenagers, yet this is
disproved with the decisions she makes in the opening scene. She seems to be weak at first, but
takes hold of the scene towards the end.
SOCIAL CLASS
The costumes of the two characters show two very stereotypical views of social class, a wealthy middles-
ages man and a somewhat “chavvy”, lower class teenage girl.
We decided that we wanted it to come across to the reader, that although they are from different social
backgrounds, they have found themselves in the same situation and taken it completely differently. This would
be the preferred reading of our piece. However, the close up shots of the man show him acting much more cocky as if he thinks he is better, and more intelligent than the young girl. The actors performance comes
across as though the man recons he is smart enough to win.
