EvaCasaleFormanypeople,running184milesmightseemimpossible,butforEvaCasaleofGlenCove,it’sjustanotherweek.Casale,52,isrunningtheSuffolkmarathonforthesecondtime.“I'mlookingforwardtorunningtheSuffolkCountyMarathonandonceagain,supportingtheSuffolkCountyVeteransseries,”Casalesaid.It’s“notjustanenduranceevent,itisawayforustorememberandhonorourtroops,ourveterans,andourfallenheroes.Ineverystepwetakeandendureduringthismarathon,weshowappreciation.”The third annual Catholic Health Services Suffolk County Marathon, Half Marathon, 5k, and newest race, 4 Person Marathon Relay, to Support our Veterans, is being held on Oct. 29. The races will start and finish in the village of Patchogue. Last year’s races netted $140,000 for Suffolk County veterans’ services such as therapy dogs, PTSD counseling, housing, and much more. Onherwebsite,Casaleencouragesthat“youcanliveyourlifeforyourself…andothers,atthesametime,”andshedefinitelylivesbythatmotto.In2006shedonatedakidneytoastranger.Shehasalsoruninover50fullmarathonsand30ultramarathonsthatbenefitdifferentcharities.SinceshelastranintheSuffolkmarathonin2015,CasalehasstartedTeamEVA(EveryVeteranAppreciated).TeamEVAraisesmoneyforHopefortheWarriors.Forthepasttwoyearstheyhavedonesobyrunning7marathonsin7days(184milestotal)throughoutSuffolkCountyinhopestohonorandincreaseawarenessforourtroops,veterans,andfallenheroes.Casalereceivesmuchsupportfromthecommunity.“TheSuffolkCountyExecutiveandhisstaffhavealwaysbeenverysupportiveoftheTeamE.V.A.184milerunningeventthatIdoeachyear,”shesaid.Anyonecanjoinherteam,fromdonatingonherwebsiteoreventakingpartinherruns.Shehasraisedmorethan$250,000.TheOct.29raceswillbefollowedbytheFreedomFest:TheTasteofLongIslandFestival,whichfeaturesLongIslandfoods,winesandcraftbeers.Bandsandotheractivitiesarealsoplanned.
