Finding Books Using the Library Catalogue
If you have a reference:
search the main author’s last name AND keywords from the title (leave out and, in, for etc)
Search results
• In this example, same book appears as ebook and hard copy (in library)
• Click on the title of the one you want to use
If you see [electronic resource] after the title it is either an ebook or online journal
If just the title appears it is a hard copy item which is in the library
Where to find the book
Make sure it’s not in Dubai!
Write down the WHOLE call number so you
can find the book on the
shelf
Check which
floor to go to
How long you can borrow
for
Check it is AVAILABLE! If it says ON LOAN it’s
not on the shelf so don’t look for it
REQUEST IT!
Don’t have a reference? Doing a subject search
• Use ‘general keyword search’ to look for books on a particular topic
• Depending on your topic you may not find a whole book covering it but there may be a very useful chapter in a larger text with wider scope
• Remember ‘general keyword’ search will search both words in the title and subjects
• If you only want ebooks add ebook into your keyword search
How do I find an e-book?• E-books can be found using the library catalogue, just like a
print book.
• You will see the words ‘[electronic resource]’ after the title.
• Click on the blue ‘online access’ link to download or read the book online – make sure you have logged into myUniHub!
• If you only want ebooks add ‘ebook’ into your keyword search for example: psychology qualitative ebook

Journal Access• Most of our journals are available electronically• All our journals are listed in the library catalogue
• IF we have it online there will be a blue ‘online access’ link to the available online issues of the journal
• If you know the journal title, this is the easiest way to find it
Finding electronic journals • If you have the name of an article you CANNOT put that into the library
catalogue (the catalogue does not list individual articles – this is what databases are for)
• You must do a ‘journal keyword’ search for the name of the journal itself, click the link for the correct year and then find the article in the correct issue
Notice there are two different links which cover different date periods
for the journal – make sure you click the correct link for the article you
want
