FALL2017CourseOverviewThisclassisanoverviewofthebusinessoffilmandmediafocusedonpast,presentandemergingpracticesfrombothamajormotionpicturestudioandindependentfilmperspectiveconcentratingontheeconomicsandbusinessmodels–“followthemoney”-thatdriveshowbusinessaswellasexposuretothecriticalpracticalexpertiserequiredtosatisfythemulti-faceteddemandsofproducingcontentintheever-changingmedialandscape.Thedisruptinginfluenceoftechnologicaladvances,changingconsumerhabitsandtheriseof‘international’willbeanalyzedaswellasthetensionsbetweencontent/distribution,business/creative,andrisk/reward,tonamebutafewparadigms,thatareatthecoreofunderstandingtheeternalbeatingheartoftheentertainmentindustry.Theclassisstructuredintwohalves,withthe‘eco-systems’featuredinthefirsthalfoftheSemesterleadingtothemid-termexamfollowedbythepracticalitiesofproducingleadinguptothefinalexam.Informationwillbepresentedinclassfromyourinstructor,handouts,readingassignmentsandindustryprofessionals.LearningObjectives
