“Yum! I could smell your cooking from down the street!”

Y ou come home after work, and y our wife is cooking fish. Y ou were able to smell it before y oueven came in the door. When y ou come in, y ou say :

Yum ! I could sm ell your cooking from down the street!

Yum! People say this when something tastes good, or when itlooks or smells like it's going to taste good.

There's also the word "y ummy ". Both "Y um!" and"Y ummy !" sound like something that a y oung childwould say , but "Y ummy !" sounds more childish than"Y um". A more adult-sounding expression to say whensomething tastes good is:

That's really good.

Or when y ou smell something that seems like it's going totaste good:

That smells great.

When y ou see it:

Looks great!

(someone's) cooking The food that someone cooks is called "___'s cooking":

I'm looking forward to going home for a few daysand having some of my mom's cooking.

Y our cooking has certainly improved over the lastfew years.

smell (something) from(somewhere) When a smell travels a long distance, y ou say "smell ___from over here" or "smell ___ from (somewhere)":

Oh my God, those shoes are disgusting. I can smellthem from over here!

My mama used to bake cookies every Sunday whenI was growing up. Y ou could smell them from ahundred yards away.

Y ou can use "see" and "hear" in the same way :

I could hear them laughing from across the street.

We saw a herd of deer in the woods from our car.
