Our commitment to sustainable engineering design on
new and refurbishment projects means that we often
engage the services of thermal modelling specialist to
provide detailed thermal analysis of internal spaces.
We recognise the importance of undertaking this to
inform the design team and assist in accurately
selecting plant with duties that match more closely the
load profile of the building and will perform efficiently
and cost effectively.

Osh House - Parkhurst Abinger
Osh House is a 6000sq.ft new build modernist family residence
set in an 18 acre estate.
En Masse Design provided full design for the mechanical,
plumbing and electrical services which includes 15 sq.m of solar
thermal array for heated water to the external pool and boosted
domestic hot water. Underfloor heating is used throughout the
property and supplied by LPG condensing boilers.

En Masse Design produced detailed modelling of
the building during concept stage to assist the
design team in optimising building orientation,
glazing specification and area and solutions for
passive heating and ventilating rooms.
TAS modelling was also used to assess window
apertures for automated natural ventilation and
results produced to assess internal comfort
temperatures at varying aperture positions.

Flying Start – Eastchurch Sheppey
Working in collaboration with engineering consultants Atelier Ten
En Masse Design were involved in the design of the mechanical
and environmental services for the Flying Start project on Isle-of-
Sheppey.
The project designed by Walker & Martin architects comprises a
12000 sq m multi function visitors centre to house various exhibits
but principally flying machines of the early 20th Century. The
building will be a celebration of the first UK flights made by early
aviation pioneers.
Part of the brief is to create a building which uses energy
responsibly. To achieve this aim a combination of sustainable
technologies will be employed including, 100m high wind turbine,
a ground source heat pump for space heating and cooling, solar
thermal collectors, rainwater harvesting and use of mix mode
natural ventilation.

Beirut Tower – Beirut
En Masse Design were appointed by consultants Atelier Ten to
assess the load profile for a 30 storey harbour side exclusive
apartment block in Beirut.
Our analysis assessed the affect on the buildings cooling load by
modelling different glazing specifications to find the optimum.
Through the analysis conducted estimated cooling loads in excess
of 1000 Tons were reduced to less than 600 Tons by use of glass
with good solar characteristics.
