"This is for the information ofthose who daily recite NANAKSAHEB's JAP JI, that in the year
1877 A.D, SOAMI JI MAHARAJ Whowas the august Founder of The
Radhasoami Faith had, on myprayer, Dictated The Elucidations
of JAP JI and Rohras. Themanuscript of The Elucidation had
for sometime been misplaced. Itwas believed to have been lost.However, by chance it has now
been found out."

contains The Elucidation of JAP JI.That of Rohras has not been tracedas yet. At the end of the
manuscript are given Elucidationsof two couplets and one Shabd as
well.
In JAP JI NANAK SAHEB Has SungThe Praises of FIVE SHABDS, but
He, in His MAUJ, has Not chosen todisclose what those FIVE SHABDSAre. As to their FIVE REGIONS Hehas mentioned Them at the end
and, having done that, has
brought JAP JI to close. He hasalso hinted about The Method for
Attaining Those Regions. At

several Places GUR NANAKExhort mankind to Sing, to Listen
and Engender Love By Singing, Heevidently means repetition of TheTrue Name, that is, Performance of
SIMRAN. By Listening, HeObviously refers to Listening to
SHABD, that is, The Practice ofBHAJAN. And by Engendering
Love, He Means DHYAN, that is,The Contemplation of The
Countenance of SAT GUR Who isSAT PURUSH SAT NAAM in humanform.
SANT MAT or the religion of Sants
is Not inspired by any extantreligion. In JAP JI GUR NANAKhas Defined His religion as A

PANTH, meaning a religion whichhas come from a far away religion
at the Top. The religionpromulgated by TULSI SAHIBanother Sant, has been described
as PA PATH, meaning ownreligion having NO precedence at
all. Making indirect reference toFundamental Truths is a commonfeature of the Writings of Sants.
One such illustration is The
Ramayan or Ram Charitra Manasof TULSI SAHIB which is anallegorical account of the Jiva's
Journey from the heart-centre tothe Top of Brahmand i.e., SUNN or

divided into three grand Divisions:The Purely Spiritual Division, The
Spiritual-material division and thematerial-spiritual division, whichare Known as Nirmal ChaitanyaDesh, Brahmand Desh and Pind
Desh respectively. In Pind ormaterial-spiritual division, SURATor Ruh (spirit entity) acts throughthe media of Mind and matter, and
is subservient to them. In
Brahmand, the spiritual-materialdivision, Mind and matter arecomparatively pure and are

subservient of SURAT. NirmalChaitanya Desh, The Region of
spirit, is also called DAYAL DESH(The Region of Daya or Mercy) orSATT DESH (The Region of SAT orTRUTH). There is NO trace of Mindand matter in the Purely Spiritual
Division.
Each Grand Division has beenfurther divided into six sub-
division. All the eighteen sub-divisions are represented in thehuman body. The points of
representation are called centersor ganglions. The six centers of
Pind are called Chakras. They aresituated at the nervous centers at
the rectum, the reproductive

organ, the navel, the heart, thethroat and the pineal gland at the
root of the nose inwards. Theseare the reflections of the sixcenters or Kanwals of Brahmand,

Sunn. The centers or Kanwals ofBrahmand are, in their turn, the
reflections of the six centers,called Padams, of the Nirmal
Chaitanya Desh. The Six Padamsare:

Mat recognize nothing beyond OM.

in water without getting wet, soalso should one cross the sea ofexistence by the PRACTICE OF
SURAT SHABD YOGA.'
That PURUSH, That Is, SAT NAAMis The Prime Mover and Creatoraccording to SANT MAT. He Is
neither afraid of, nor has enmity
with, any one. He Has NO past,present or future, nor are HisExistence and Manifestation
dependent on birth. Through theMERCY of GUR can we Meet and
Worship Such SUPREME BEING.
SAT NAAM means True Name. On

hearing this world, the impressionis created that it is a conventional
or acquired name and Not theinherent or innate name of TheSUPREME BEING. But this
objection is untenable. There is aJauhar (inherent essence), and
also mere arz (outer attribute oracquired feature). A person can beaddressed as a dealer in cloth. Butwhen he keeps NO stock of cloth,
he cannot be called a dealer incloth. This illustrates what arz(acquired feature or outer
attribute) is. Selling cloth is anacquired feature or outer attribute.
The attribute that labels the namecan be quite different from the
object or the being whose attribute

it is. But if the name of the saidperson is Hari Singh and he is
referred to by this name, on willidentify that very person whosename Hari Singh is. This name isnot separate from the being or
identity of that person. SAT NAAM
Is, similarly, DHUNIATMAK orInnate name of The SUPREMEBEING. For, if `Sat' is removedfrom the name, nothing will be
Understood. All other names areVarnatmak or conventional andacquired. It has been said:
'Whatever the tongue articulates
are artificial or conventional orVarnatmak names, whereas SAT
NAAM Is The Highest and the most

ancient or DHUNIATMAK name.'As stated above, The SUPREME
BEING Manifest Himselfunbegotten. As `birth' has beenruled out in His case, the question
arises how He Should ManifestHimself amongst us and show us
His Path. It is our religious tenetthat man is the noblest of all thecreated beings. The SUPREME
BEING has Created him after His
Image. The spirituality in man isan Emanation from That SUPREMEBEING Himself. The human frame
has been so constituted that, usingit as the Medium, The SUPREME
BEING Can Manifest Himself untous. He cannot Manifest Himself inany other form and Guide us on

His Path. What is really meant isthat His Manifestation takes place
like the birth of human being. Butsince He Is The LORD of all, He isnot in the cycle of transmigration.
And this refers to SAT GURWhose description has been given
earlier. GUR and SUPREME BEINGare One and the Perfect Fakir andKHUDA (GOD). The saying goes,
'Knowest thou that GUR and
PARMESHWAR (GOD) are One andthe same. Why doest thou forgetthis and wander in ignorance'?
Quot. The SUPREME BEING and
SANT are One and the same. Anyother concept Is meaningless.Forgetting the thought of any

other, if you worship SANT you willattain The SUPREME BEING.
Quot. The SUPREME BEING andSANT are One and the same, therecan be NO other view. The wave
emerges from the ocean andmerges back in the ocean.
It is through The GRACE of GURthat you will be able to attain the
True, Eternal form of That

The SUPREME BEING was EternallyTrue in the beginning. He was so

True before the advent of Sat Yug,Treta Yug, Dwapar and Kali Yug.
He was True before Maya andBrahm were created. He Is Trueand Eternal now. He will Remain
True in future. The gist of thediscussion is that attainment of
SAT NAAM is possible with TheGRACE and MERCY of The
PERFECT GUR. In what has beenwritten above, there is praise of
The LORD (KHUDA) at thebeginning and at the end, but inthe middle, there is the praise of
GUR. GUR Occupies the CentralPosition and everything depends
on Him.
If you are seeking the Secrets of

SAT NAAM SAT PURUSH and youfeel that you can know them Lakh
of times, they will never comewithin the ambit of your thoughts,deficient as your thoughts are.
If you say you will keep quiet and
practice silence and, thereby, meetThe SUPREME BEING, that too, will
not be possible, because HeCannot be Attained by observing
silence though your mind andattention may be deeply absorbedin His Thought.
If you wish to seek redemption,
that is, come in The AugustPresence of The SUPREME BEING,
by abstaining from food or by

observing fast, you will NotSucceed. A second interpretation is
that even if you amass the wealthof seven kingdoms, your thirst willNot be quenched because it is part
of human nature. A thirdinterpretation is that even if the
wealth of seven kingdoms be atyour command, the inherent
longing for meeting The SUPREMEBEING Cannot be satisfied.
You may take recourse tothousands of methods but none of
them will be of any avail.
These Japs were uttered by GURNANAK during His dialogue withascetics. They asked Him in what
way they could be True to the

SUPREME BEING, and become fitto gain admittance into His August
Presence and how the illusorycover or barrier which intervenesin between can be removed. The
answer is all as follows:
"The barrier will be removed if youcheerfully abide by Command ofThe SUPREME BEING, which hasbeen preordained for you. Again,
the illusory barrier will disappear incase of him alone for whom it isHis Command whom The SUPREME
BEING Can never be attained bythinking about Him or observing
silence, or by becoming a greatking or by taking recourse todiverse devices. He shall be

Attained at the Pleasure of GUR."
SECTION2At the Command of The SUPREMEBEING every thing, which has a
form or shape, comes into being.
It is beyond the ken of humanintellect to say when, how and why
that command was ordained.
All living beings are created underHis Command. It is also by HisCommand that each acquires
proficiency.
At His Command one is wealthyand the other, poor; one is born ina high family and the other, in the

lowly. It is at His preordainedCommand that the world
undergoes pain and pleasure.At His Command, some get prizeand prominence and other remain
duped and led astray.
NO one is outside the purview ofHis Command. Everybody goes by
His Command.
Whosoever recognizes HisCommand and abides by it, up
ego. He does not say that he hasachieved this or that but that
everything, be it good or bad,happens at the pleasure of SAT
PURUSH.

SECTION3
Some praise That Being by singingbut NO one can praise Himadequately by music.
Some people seek to disclose the
secrets of The SUPREME BEING bypraising of His BOUNTY and
GRACE.
And some sing of His HighQualities and various aspects ofHis Benignity. It may also mean
that some hymn His Praise throughthe four Vedas, viz, Yajur, Sham,
Atharv and Rig.
Some praise Him through

application of learning andknowledge which demands a high
degree of concentration of mindand intellect.
Some praise Him saying that Hemakes the human body out of
dust. Another interpretation is thatit is from dust that He makes thebody and to dust He reduce it.
Some say that it is He Who giveslife and takes it back.
Some think He is far away fromthem and to others He is ever
present and visible.
However much one may try, one

cannot praise Him adequately.Millions have become tired of
praising Him. He alone can praiseHimself.
His Bounty is such that He Givesall the time. But one who receives
it, becomes tired of talking andone's capacity to receive isexhausted. We have been
partaking of his daily bread for
innumerable Yugas (ages) butthere has never been anydeficiency in His Bounty.
That SUPREME BEING is directing
all and one by His Command. TheSUPREMELY INDEPENDENT BEINGis delighted to see all nourished

SECTION4He Is The TRUE LORD and True Is
His Name. We may praise Him withthe utmost wisdom and zeal at our
command. There can be NO end toHis praise.
We are calling and praying Him all
the time for more and more of HisGifts. That Generous andCompassionate Being bestows His
Mercy on us.
Now the ascetics ask GURNANAK: "That Being is giving useverything, so, what should we

"Haman Ost", meaning every thingis That SUPREME BEING.
SECTION5
That SUPREME BEING exists all byHimself. He needs NO support
from anyone. He is not born ofanybody. And He Himself is
NIRANJAN. By `NIRANJAN' is notmeant the ultimate goal of yogis.
It refers to SAT PURUSH SATNAAM.
He who serves and worship ThatSUPREME BEING will receive
honour and distinction at HisCourt. Of such person can be said

that He Is The Treasure house ofvirtues.
Sing about That SUPREME BEING,hear Him and cherish in your heartlove and affection for Him. In other
words, practice SIMRAN
(Repetition of The Holy Name),BHAJAN (Listening internally toSHABD coming from above) and
DHYAN (Contemplation of His
Form, that is, the Countenance ofSAT GUR). The benefit which willaccrue, shall end your misery andtake you to abode of happiness.
The GURUMUKH, Who MouldsHimself according to GURU'sBehest, Attains The Form of

SHABD. He can hear SHABD and,later on, he acquires GYAN
(Knowledge), the stage of Marfat.He knows what KHUDA (GOD) is.He who is a GURUMUKH, RemainsAbsorbed in the Remembrance of
The SUPREME BEING. And
according to SANTS, Marfat consistnot in saying; "I am GOD." But in
giving up ego and in going oncherishing Bhakti (Devotion) even
after uniting with The LORD. Whatthe GURUMUKH Achieves, will bethrough The MERCY of The GUR.
There is NO end to GUR's Praise.
But because of the poorunderstanding of worldly people
GUR has been described as

Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Ishwar,Mahadeo, Parvati, Gaura, Savitri
and so on.Though I know Him, I cannotmake Him known by speaking
about Him, because His Identity
can never be expressed in speech.
GUR alone will reveal that `One'to us. May I never forget the `One'
Who Is The Sole Benefactor andThe LORD of all.
SECTION6
If it is The SUPREME BEING'sPleasure that I should make
ablution at a place of pilgrimage, I

will do so; but if that does notplease Him, what shall I gain by
such ablution? You will notice thatwhat has been said is that theSUPREME BEING is not at allpleased if a bath is taken at a
place of pilgrimage. So, to wander
about for years at places likeHardarwar, Khasi, Prayag, etc, isabsolutely useless. In the past,
centers of pilgrimage were
beneficial because there used tobe nice solitary places on thebanks of rivers where SANTS andFakirs would stay. Now, since fairsand funs are held there, SANTS
and SHADUS, finding this a greatdisturbance, have left those
places. Instead of deriving the

A person may live for four Yugas
or even ten times longer, that is,for forty Yugas, and may becomerenowned in all the nine divisionsof the earth or the entire surface
of the globe. He may be a
distinguished personage withname and fame won all the world
over by his good deeds and all

By listening alone you becomePerfect, a Pir and a godly and
Pious man. Here Listening doesnot refer to listening the name of
Ram (GOD) and the so-calledreligious discourses for, all havebeen reciting Ram Ram and
listening to religious discourses forlives together, but, so far, not even
one person has attainedperfection. By Listening is meant
Listening to The ANHAD SHABD or

SHABD. Nanak says that the Vedasand other scriptures have NO idea
of the Greatness of such a Sadh.Quot. The spirit (Surat) is
wandering in the nine doors of thebody. On entering the tenth, it will
find its True abode. There, ANHADSHABD Resounds day and night. Itcan be heard by following GUR's
Instructions. Without SHABD,
there is darkness within. Neitheryou attain the object nor does thecycle (of births and deaths)
terminate. The Key of the Door isin The Hands of GUR. NO one
else can Open The Door. ThePERFECT GUR is Meet by Good
Fortune.

Listen to what The LORD Says.Shut your eyes and look at Thetenth Door. You will Hear ANHADSHABD, and from a subject youwill Become a Sovereign. All the
musical sounds are playing withinthe body. What a Melody is Being
Produced. Blessed is He WhoHears itsays Vajj Saheb.
It has been said further:
Shutting the three openings, beabsorbed in ANHAD SHABD.
NANAK Says that in That SunnSamadh (Conscious Absorption inrapturous bliss) there is neither

There is yet another saying:Close your eyes, ears and mouth
and you will Perceive theResplendence of The LORD.
It has been said:
Ever since I heard the
Reverberation of ANHAD SHABD,my Mind has become tame, senseswearied and desires dead andgone. When SURAT heard the

withdrawn and the body becomebenumbed. every pore of my being

Bliss. I am Immersed in SHABDand am inebriated in the bliss. It is
with Great Fortune that I HaveAttained such a ConsciousAbsorption. I have Ascended over
SHIKAR (SUNN).
It is because of That SHABD thatthe seven Dweeps (islands), Loksand infernal region exist. Due toThat SHABD alone, Kal Cannot
exert his force. The saying goes:Quot. On hearing Thy Name, the
agents of Yama take to their heels,with the Help of GUR's SHABD,
You Cross the terribly vast oceanof life.

messengers of Death. GUR Saysit is by Virtue of SHABD that aDevotee is always happy. As HeHears That SHABD, all his pains

SHABD, that you Can Cross the
ocean of existence.Here are a few sayings regarding
ANHAD SHABD:

Whoever Understand andAppreciates this Statement, trulyFinds Access to The Court of TheLORD. If somebody says that the
earth is supported on the horns ofa bull, what a wrong and
misleading statement would thatbe. For, how much weight could a
bull bear and how long could he doso? Further, if the earth issupported on the horns of a bull,
the latter must be talking his standon some land which, again, must
be resting on bull and the latter,standing on some land. So, therecan be NO end to this. For this

reason, to say that the earth issupport on the horns of a bull, is
totally wrong. The idea is tohighlight the truth that the earthdepends for its existence on piety

written by the hidden Command ofThe LORD, which is preordained
and which NO one can know.
If one wants to ascertain it, onecannot do so. Even if one were to
know, how much can one reallyknow, for there are countlessthings to be known.

There are countless ways ofworshiping that SAT PURUSH, thatis, there are innumerable methods
of remembering Him. Countlessworship Him. There is not limit to
His Glory. And inestimable is thenumber of persons who pay their
homage to Him and love Him.
Repetition of NAAM, that isSIMRAN, is of many kinds, e.g., bymeans of the tongue, by utteringNAAM distinctly and audibly, by itsimperceptible utterance in a soft
voice, by repeating NAAM from theheart, by its repetition by means
of the spirit, etc. There are

subjected to the rigorous of fire,water, etc., the senses are kept incheck, the Attention is
concentrated for the performanceof an Abhyas like Shaghal Nasira
(practice of sight is focused at thetip of nose) ; Shaghal Mahmuda
(practice of focusing one's sight at

and several other ways ofperforming this kind of penance.

the angels known as Gana.

Brahm Says, "Abide in The Region

That LORD Is Great and Exalted-most is His Name. It is He Who

Is in the know of everything thatexists. And if one Asserts that oneknows or can know, one will
command NO respect and willeventually be disgraced.

above the sky we see. Hepervades The Entire Creation, fromthe lowest to The highest region. Asecond Interpretation is that There

His Secret, that is, about Him the
Vedas conclude, "not this, notthis".
Mention has been made ofeighteen thousand words in

left the Mind below in TRIKUTI(Gyan Khand) appears in its Trueand Elegant Form in SUNN, whereit is described as single or alone.
The company or the Mind and
