What happened in Egypt last summer?
If you followed the Western media, CNN, even AlJazeera, your view of
what happened is probably something like this:
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer

1/25/2011: 30 year dictator Hosney Mubarak ousted
in popular revolution (Yay).

Yet another year later, Morsi is ousted in a MilitaryCoup detat led by General ElSisi. Frowned upon
by the world and brings oppression back (Extra
Double Boo with raspberry)

Some historical background is needed
An account of what happened as I view it

Started out as a simple group of preachers
The political agenda started showing
Famous for political assassinations
Dreamed of the rise of the Second Caliphate
Believed in the end justifies the means
Originally local in Egypt, now an international
consortiumthe Mother of all Islamist
movements
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
13/46
1952: A military coup led by Nasser ousts
King and the Britishlater turned revolution
Nassers dictatorship targeted the Brotherhood
Torture and execution by puppet courts of theMB
Sadat gives them a breakislamists rise in
Egypt, Sadat ends up assassinated by one of
them
Persecution of MB continues throughout
Mubaraks presidency
80 years later, they still dreamt of the
Caliphate
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
14/46
Mubarak thrown out in popular uprising
18 days of sit in in Egypts Tahrir Square
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
15/46
The January 25th revolution was designed by the Muslim Brotherhood
They knew that out of all possible future governments, they had the most
sympathy, so they planned it to get ahead in their 80 year long plan
What I think:
No, January 25 was a true revolution. The MB
were taken by surprise by it, but quickly
managed to ride the wave
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
16/46
To the Armys military leaders
Mubarak himself never says this, the transfer is announced by his vice
president
The military overthrows Mubarak in a coup, based on popular demand
What I think: They probably pushed him, but given future events it is not
likely they did it to rule
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
17/46
Egyptians elect a parliament. Islamists do very well.
Several constitution assemblies are put together and taken apart
Parliament is dissolved
Presidential elections are held, WITHOUTa parliament, and WITHOUTa
constitution
The Egyptian people are easily swayed by pious religious claims. Vote for me
and you will go to heaven
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
18/46
The Islamist movement, led by the MB, is the most prepared political
movement in Egypt, backed by popular sympathy for 80 years of
oppression are bound to win any elections. For some reason, the military
leaders back then decided to hand power to the MB!
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
19/46
13 nominees for President
Most of them unknown, some from the old opposition
Second round of elections only two make it:
Mubaraks prime minister (hated by many Egyptians)
Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Morsi (previously a complete unknown)
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
20/46
By 51%. About 13 million people voted for him (remember this number)
Most of them were admittedly protest votes. The campaign to elect Morsi just
because he is not the other guy was enormous
Lots of stories of people who voted for the Islamist for belief that this is their
religious duty
The Islamists rejoice, dreams of the Caliphate renewed
My view then: The MB had the chance of their lifetime! Can they help Egypt rise?
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
21/46
After 80 years of planning to take power, they finally make it. Youd think
they have plans upon plans on how to make Egypt grow and improve,
right?
Right?
Wrong!
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer

A new constitution, written overnight, objected to by most non-MB political
factions. Constitution favors the religious dogma of the MB
Passing an constitutional decree that his decision cannot be revoked by courts
of law!!! In the absence of people representation (which lasted his entireyear), Morsi also grabbed all power to pass laws.
Most government officials, ministers, mayors etc were replaced by MB
members, who immediately set on to alienate most others (example: the Cairo
Opera House was almost shut down by the MB minister of Arts, Ballet was
discussed publicly as an immoral erotic art)
Alienated the military leaders who transferred power to him
Further and exponential collapse of Egyptian economy and the infra structure
(hours long gas lines, frequent electrical failures etc)
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
23/46
Peaceful demonstrations against him were immediately countered by MB
militiaskillings and tortures (not the police, who were also against him)
Weak cabinet, contradictory decisions passed and changed overnight
Couldnt tell the difference between being a majority leader and being a
president for all Egyptians
Thought of his opposition as enemies of the state or remnants of
Mubaraks regime
A general feeling of the MB just dont care what happens to Egypt as long
as they stay in power (dreams of the Second Worldwide Caliphate)

The borders with the Gaza strip was flung wideopen, allowing thousands of members of the
terrorist group Hamas to pour into the Sinai.
Morsis view: Our Muslim brothers deserve our
hospitality
It is important to note that the Sinai is a very
sensitive topic to Egyptians, wars were fought there
and people died
Conspiracy Theory:
It has been proposed that there exist a hidden agreement between the MB, Israel
and the Obama administration of allowing the Sinai to become the new home to
the Palestinians, effectively ending the middle east conflict. It has been said that
the MB made a lot of money from that deal. This theory was so strong in the
public opinion.

It started with a small group of young activists, calling themselves Rebel,
gathering signatures on a form expressing displeasure with Morsi, listing the
above reasons, and calling for his resignation
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer

Although unofficial, and there are
no guarantees of honesty, the
number is staggering and is
almost twice as many as voted forMorsi in the first place

Army leader General AbdelFattah ElSisi issued a statement warning that the
country is on the brink of civil war, giving all political factions 48 hours to
appease the people
The street erupts with support, demanding that ElSisi remove Morsi and the MB

one thing: I am the president and I am not

Depends on how you define coup
ElSisi did not keep power. Was handed to the head of the
Supreme Constitutional court exactly as demanded by the
people
The reaction of the West angered most Egyptians.
Demonstrations against Obama and the Western media in
general
MB sponsored AlJazeera lead the lies campaign
Doesnt Morsi have the right to finish his four years? He was
democratically elected after all. Well, do you know who else
was democratically elected?
This guy:

The war against terrorism in the Sinai continues
MB leaders warn that unless Morsi is returned,
terrorist acts in Egypt will continue
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
44/46
A new constitution, supervised by all political and religious factions, is being
written
A new technocrat interim government is in charge
Promise of parliamentary elections following the constitution referendum then
presidential elections
ElSisi is in full charge, the current president is simply a front. ElSisi will
run for president and will win
8/14/2019 Egypt: I know what you did last summer
45/46
Only time can tell the true intentions of General ElSisi
Right now things are going in the right direction, the labor pains of democracy
Do mistakes happen? Yes. Is it a perfect transition? No.
Should Morsi have finished his four years? Absolutely NOT!
