Food Truck
Hong Kong is famous for its diverse and delicious cuisines. The great potential of the food industry has attracted many entrepreneurs but the high rents have made it difficult for start-ups to survive. For those who want to try their luck at the industry, the recently launched Food Truck Pilot Scheme is certainly a great opportunity as it offers a cheaper alternative to opening a restaurant.
The scheme will start in late 2016 and last for two years. It involves 16 food trucks operating on a rotation basis at eight popular tourist spots, including the open space outside Ocean Park and Disneyland. The government will also arrange food trucks to provide catering at large-scale events. The government will collect 10 per cent of the operators’ earnings to cover parking, electricity and management fees at the sites. Information about the application procedure can be found on the Tourism Commission website.
Are you thinking about opening your own food trucks? Below are some insider tips.
1. Elise from Mi Casa
Passion is not enough. Keep in mind that it’s a business, not a hobby. You must do market research to find out what your customers like and what your competitors are up to.
