Agro-Know Data platform
1010thth EdReNe Conference EdReNe Conference 6 - 7 Nov 2013, Brussels6 - 7 Nov 2013, Brussels
Introducing the Agro-Know Data Platform
•The Agro-Know Data Platform is an open system that can aggregate data from various sources and connect with software tools that may be used for: storage, organisation, curation, enrichment, analysis, exposure & discovery of various data products.
•It is an end-to-end, modular platform taking advantage of big data technologies and open APIs to offer a variety of services to internal and external software systems.
•The Agro-Know Data Platform provides the hub around which a variety of tools and services can be setup, forming a data-powered ecosystem based on data sharing, enrichment and visualisation.

“Education must be connected to real life; it cannot be a parallel universe. Young people want to use digital technology in every aspect of life.” Neelie Kroes, Commission Vice-President Brussels, 25 Sept 2013
What can museums learn from this?
Museums have the opportunity to join the conversation taking place about the future of education and think beyond their collections and the physical walls of the museum.
1010thth EdReNe Conference EdReNe Conference 6 - 7 Nov 2013, Brussels6 - 7 Nov 2013, Brussels
Microsites for museums•designed, developed and deployed to help museums bring collections to the fingertips of their users by supporting discovery of items of interest from museum’s digital collections•opens museum’s collections to a worldwide audience of users •enriches museum’s collections with relevant content hosted by other museums around the world – AK Data Platform currently hosts a cultural collection of >7000 digital resources on botany, zoology, mineralogy etc.•integrated in the existing Web site of a museum or developed as a brand new and independent service•based on the Data Platform which can be adapted to work with museums’ own collection management system, as well as global infrastructures like GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility).

What is an Educational pathway? •bridging classroom and museum learning•a learning experience embedded in a context that allows the preparation of the learner before the visit and follow-up activities for the exploitation of the learning outcomes•ensuring the maximum possible proximity between the curriculum and teaching methods on the one hand, and the learning environment•integrating technology and OER in the learning process

Pedagogical approach
Inquiry-based learning•understand the topic investigated and consolidate knowledge by collecting and interpreting information, discussing, reflecting and presenting their findings•encouraging interaction and collaboration between students
Resource-based learning•a student-centred approach encouraging hand-on interaction and use of OER•the role of the teacher is to guide and assist the learner

Pathway authoring tool (PAT) •a web based tool that can be used to build complex web resources with a story like structure•can be used to model educational and researcher activities•includes a digital library of resources that authors can manage and use as a data pool to build their stories •digital library can be enriched with resources from external data sources e.g. Europeana and social sites e.g. YouTube, SlideShare•authors can create their own structure for the web resource or select from a list of predefined structures•Currently hosting >80 educational pathways for school learning and adult learning
1010thth EdReNe Conference EdReNe Conference 6 - 7 Nov 2013, Brussels6 - 7 Nov 2013, Brussels
Features•Develop complex web resources with a predefined structure•Customizable pathway structure •Access to a list of predefined pathway structures•User management•Multilingual interface
•Ingestion of digital objects from external sources•Simple authoring approach•Tailored to the needs of the users •Configurable metadata editor
