PRIEST IN CHARGE LETTER
Doesn’t Time Fly
It has come as a bit of a shock to me to realise that I have now been in the benefice for a full year. It
has been a year of great change for me, a new career, two new houses and a whole lot of new friends. I
would like to thank all of you who have helped me settle in and get my head round how two parishes
and four villages work. The latter process is far from complete.
This month marks the beginning of a new venture for us as we start two new House Groups. Their
purpose is to provide opportunities for fellowship, study and prayer together. All are welcome to join
us. We will meet on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month, - Tuesday at 10.00 am at 6
Falcon Close, starting 11th
, contact Jan Dixon on 723557, and Wednesday at 7.30 pm at the Rectory,
starting on 12th
, contact me on 726476. To start with we will be following an Emmaus Growth Course
produced by the Church of England. Round about Christmas we will be looking for new ideas to take
us into the New Year.
We begin our harvest celebrations this month with the Gilston with Eastwick Harvest Festival at St
Mary’s Gilston on Sunday 30th
September at 6.00 pm followed by refreshments. 30th
September is also
Back to Church Sunday when many churches hope to welcome back people who have perhaps lost
contact over the years. It is a good time to come back to church or to start coming for the first time. It
really isn’t as scary as it sounds. Christians are just ordinary human beings with a particular view of life
that we would like to share with you.
Please remember in your prayers all the younger people who will be making new starts this month,
starting school for the first time or going to a new school, meeting a new teacher or preparing to go to
college or university. Also, pray for those who have finished education and are looking for a career to
follow. The Olympics have taught us that if we believed we can achieve something we are half way
there. If you are making a new start that is a good way to begin. Even better would be to do it in
partnership with a loving God who will guide you through all of life’s difficulties.
See you all on the 30th
at St James, High Wych at 9.30 am or at St Mary’s Gilston at 6.00 pm.
Anthony Giles
