1 Installation and set–up
1.1 Introduction
The DX342 is a portable price computing weighing machine withan optional column–mounted head–up display. The scale issupplied with a stainless steel weighplate. A stainless steelproduce scoop is available.
This section of this book describes the weighing machine and thesymbols used to illustrate its functions and operation. Thefollowing sections tell you how to install and operate the weighingmachine.

Error conditions
After switching on the scale and it has run through its testsequence you may see one of the following error messages:
UNDERRANGE –0–
If problem persists carry outthe following checks ....
.... check that there is no load on the weighplate ....
–0–
�.... check that the machine is level ....
�
.... do not exceed the maximum load ........ check that the machine is notsubject to external vibration ....
�.... clean the pan to remove any accumulation of dirt, food etc.
OVERRANGE
BATTERY FLATReplace batteries.

OUT OF BALANCE
The scale bleeps
Failure to balance. Check weighplate is inplace. Check there is no weight on theweighplate. Switch off scale and switchon again. If problem persists call yourservice engineer.

1.4 Operator keyboard
→T← TARE TTARE key: Subtracts the weight of acontainer. Cancels a tare.
TESTTEST key: Tests the displays at any time.
ZERO NULL–0–ZERO key: Resets the displayed weight tozero. Under certain conditions cancels anactive tare.
STANDBY
STANDBY key: Switches the scale to standbyto reduce battery drain. Turns the scale on if ithas automatically turned off to save power.
F SAVE PRE–PACK
FIX key: Retains a tare or unit price.
PRICEBASE
PRICE BASE key: Allows the selection of twoweight units.

C CECLEAR key: Cancels the Add functions.Clears the Add totals or unit price data.
ADD + ACCUM.
ADD key: Adds the total prices of a number oftransactions. (Only available where permittedby Local Weights and Measures Regulations.)

X2 X4MULTIPLIER keys: Allows unit pricemultiplication in fixed weight unit machines.(USA only.)
lb/kglb/kg key: Selects Imperial or Metric weighingunits. (UK and Canada only.)
1.5 Routine maintenance
1.5.1 Cleaning
WARNING:TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF ELECTRIC SHOCK,DO NOT CLEAN THE MACHINE WHILE IT CONNECTEDTO A MAINS ADAPTOR. SWITCH OFF THE MACHINE,THEN DISCONNECT THE MAINS ADAPTOR FROM THEMACHINE BEFORE CLEANING.
Caution:Do not use scouring cleaners or alkali cleaningsolutions such as washing soda.
The outside of the scale may be wiped with a clean clothmoistened with water containing a small amount of detergent.The weighplate lifts off for easy cleaning.

1.5.2 Changing the batteries
Caution:To prevent damage to the scale caused by leakingbatteries, remove flat or damaged batteriesimmediately.
You must use six 1.5V, ‘C’ size batteries. The life of the batteriesin the scale depends on the type and quality of batteries used. Toattain a battery life exceeding 90 hours alkaline batteries must beused.
