St Paul’s Anglican Op Shop is located next
to the Anglican Church at 53 Young Street
Harvey. The Op Shop uses the original
Anglican Church building which was built
in 1905 on the corner of Gibbs and Young
Street. The building was relocated to the
corner of Hester and Young Street in 1951
and a new Anglican Church building was
built next to it facing Young Street.
From humble beginnings the Op Shop has grown
over the past twenty years to become a thriving
hub of community support. The goal of the Op
Shop is to support the community by providing
affordable goods in an easily accessible location.
All goods that are sold in the Op Shop are donated
by the local community. This encourages people to
recycle and reuse goods instead of disposing of
usable goods in the rubbish.
The Op Shop could not operate without the efforts
of our dedicated volunteers who strive to provide
the best possible service for the community. The
volunteers are responsible for sorting donations
and placing suitable goods out for sale. When we
have excess stock, we always strive to pass this
onto other groups and organisations so that as
many people as possible benefit from the commu-
nity’s donations.
Volunteering is a great way to support the com-
munity you live in. You make connections with the
people you are helping and cultivate friendships
with other volunteers. Volunteering has been
shown to promote physical and mental health.
When you invest the time and energy to volun-
teer, you are investing in yourself as well as in the
cause you are supporting.
If you would like to make new friends, improve
your health and develop some new skills along
the way please considering becoming a volunteer
at St Paul’s Anglican Op Shop in Harvey. You can
change your life and the life of others when you
volunteer.
WE NEED YOUR HELP SO WE ARE ABLE TO
CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE NEEDS OF THE
COMMUNITY WE LIVE IN

My birding colleagues locally and I find it
common enough to find Ospreys perching
in skeletal trees at either side of the
Leschenault Inlet north of Australind.
Whistling Kites, Sea Eagles, and a Little Hobby also
perch regularly at tall skeletal trees at the north east
side of the Inlet.
However, most usually, unfavourable topography
makes is far less common to be able to follow
throughout, an Osprey during the entire course of
its hunt for a fish.
In late June, I visited the north end of Cathedral
Avenue, finding there two Ospreys at their custom-
ary perch. One bird took to flight, heading west-
wards.
As I had intended anyway, I backtracked slightly to
join Buffalo Road that runs on an east-west axis
and links Cathedral Avenue with the Leschenault
Peninsular Conservation Park. I saw as I drove at
the extensive marshland south, a flock of twenty
Yellow-billed Spoonbills, scattered White Ibis, White
-faced Herons, Pied Stilts, Egrets, and Cormorants.
I parked about halfway along Buffalo Road. I
noticed high above an Osprey soaring in circles.
Eventually, the bird hovered, then, stooped, drop-
ping like a stone. It hit the water with a great
splash. It must have missed its prey, because it
gained height and repeated the search. For the
second time it dived, splashed down, and lifted
from the water, soon gaining height as it flew east-
wards towards where I had first sighted the Osprey
pair.
I had snapped away, although my digital camera
lens (x30 25-750mm lens) at the optimum
provided poor pictures of Osprey's distant hunt in
progress.
I drove back in the direction the Osprey had taken
and found one of the Osprey pair perched with its
talons fixed in a fish.
I had been lucky with the sun light and the favour-
able topography to see the Osprey hunt in
progress. I marvelled at the sheer strength of an
Osprey that could withstand such a great impact
with the water and then lift clear with a wriggling fish
almost immediately after the bird's immersion.

Warrior Wellbeing Article
What is a Mental Health Care Plan?
The term mental health encompasses all aspects of
our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing, it
affects how we feel, think and interact with the world
around us. It’s important to acknowledge that
“dealing with life’s challenges and changes” can be
difficult at times and place our mental health and
wellbeing under pressure. The effects of this will be
different for all of us, as we all have an innate but
varying capacity to cope and deal with these pres-
sures.
A Mental Health Care Plan is designed for someone
struggling with their mental health and wellbeing or
experiencing a mental health disorder as diagnosed
by a doctor. This mental health treatment plan is
about YOU and your GP having a conversation and
both agreeing that you need additional support. The
mental health treatment plan is written out by a GP
and identifies what type of extra support you need.
It is really about patient and doctor agreeing on
what is needed to help you achieve your goals and
to support your recovery journey.
A Mental Health Care Plan may include:
• Referral to a psychologist, counsellor or other
mental / allied health professional.
• A discussion around other types of support or
strategies to help you.
• Review of current medication or the prescrip-
tion of new medication.
• Other health checks or blood tests to explore
other physical health issues.
Another major benefit of a Mental Health Care Plan
is that it comes under the Better Access initiative,
which entitles you to a Medicare rebate for up to 10
sessions with a mental health professional. The
current guidelines do not cover all 10 session in one
year. Your plan will cover you for 6 sessions, follow-
ing that you can discuss with your GP whether the
additional 4 sessions would be of benefit via a
Mental Health Care Plan review and additional
referral.
Some things to remember in context to a Mental
Health Care Plan:
When booking an appointment with your GP ask
for a longer consult or mention the reason for
the booking (struggling with mental health / dis-
cuss care plan etc.)
Sometimes there can be waiting periods to see
psychs / counsellors. Discuss alternate support
options until you can get an appointment. This
may include family, friends, support lines or
other services. Options can be limited in rural
and remote areas.
Like any plan, it gives us direction, but it’s im-
portant it is actively reviewed through follow-up
appointments with your GP and check-ins to
monitor progress.
Recovery from mental health and wellbeing
challenges and / or mental illness is an ongoing
process and is often referred to as the recovery
journey. When we can seek help, talk about,
normalise and work through our mental health
and wellbeing problems, the boundaries of our
comfort zone grow and expand. This is also how
we grow as individuals and is the true meaning of
resilience!

Support the Daffodil Day Appeal and help fund life-saving research
This year, Daffodil Day celebrates 34 years of turning Aus-tralia yellow, with Cancer Council aiming to raise $2 mil-lion for cancer research through online donations.
Cancer Council and its research partners direct almost $60 million annually to research grants for vital research projects across Australia, making the organisation the largest not-for-profit funder of cancer research in Australia.
While many of us have had our lives put on hold due to COVID-19, cancer doesn’t rest, so Cancer Council’s vital work in cancer research must continue. We rely on the generosity of community dona-tions to help us fund our work. Money raised this year will provide more than hope to people affected by cancer; it will fund vital cancer research that is saving lives every day.
Thanks to investment in research over many years, significant advancements have been made in can-cer prevention, screening and treatment - helping to increase survival rates from 49 per cent in the 1980s to 69 per cent today. Despite advances made in research and improving survival rates for many cancers, we know that every 4 minutes another Australian is diagnosed with cancer.
It is important for you to take note of any unusual changes in your body and to visit a doctor, clinic nurse or health worker without delay. We know that the earlier cancer is found, the greater the chance of successful treatment. Learn the symptoms at www.findcancerearly.com.au.
You can support the Daffodil Day Appeal by donating online before or on Friday 28 August, visit www.daffodilday.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85. Thank you for your continued support.
