What is IDDP?
IDDP is a long-term geothermal research program, established in year 2000
The goal is to improve the economics of geothermal energy by producing supercritical fluids from 4-5 km depth

• Complete success offishing with an Overshot
2009-04-18
Broken 8” DC at 2074 m
2009-04-19
Fish #2 on surface
• Managed to retrieve the fishto surface.
• The brokenthread box

Stuck at 2101 m depth
• Pulled out three singles for reaming when hook load dropped suddenly of 20 tons

Part of Fish #3 on surface
• Left in hole, 32 m of fish
• The fishing tool could not be relased
• Explosives to blast the string a part
2009-05-01
Fishing attempt
• RIH with a fishing assembly
• Connect to the box of the collar and tried to pull
• Unable to rotate or pull where the connection did not hold. Unable to reload the JAR because of the bad connection
2009-05-02
Cementing a Side Track plug #1
• 100 m cement plug planned to side track and drill pass the fish.
• Three attempts needed to get desired depth of TOC.
• Time drilling and sidetracking
• Success at 1934 m
2009-05-12
Stuck at 2005 m
• Decided to set the Anchor casing at 2005 m due to hazard zones higher up in the well (brittle formation because of cooling and heating).
• After having reached 2005 m and after 25 min. of circulation, the string got stuck.
• Circulation was maintained to clean the fill. The string was pulled and jarred for 3 days before it was loose.
2009-05-17
Wiper trip and circulate the fill of bottom
• Wiper trip before running the anchor casing.
• Bottom found at 1972 m (33 m fill).
• Tried to clean the fill with high viscous pills.
• Increased torque.
• Decided to POOH and deal with the fill after having cemented the Anchor casing.
2009-05-(18-24)
Run and cement Anchor Casing
• Run the 13 ⅝” and 13 ⅜” casing. Casing set at 1957 m (not to close to the fill).
• Cemented in two steps:
– Traditional inner string job, with a float collar and a float shoe up to known loss zones at 1600 m.
– Fill the annulus through the killline.
2009-05-27
Drilling for Production casing
• The well was drilled to 2016 m with a 12 ¼” bit.
• Total loss of circulation.
• Difficult cleaning because of a larger diameter hole below shoe (1957 m - 2005 m).
• POOH for a cementing job from bottom to casing shoe.
• Fiberglass cementing pipes used with good results (easily drillable if stuck).
• Continued drilling.
2009-06-02
Coring
• Decided to drill a spot core (9 m) from 2040 m.
• Known loss zones from previous track.
• Managed to drill 2 m until no penetration observed. No core inside the barrel.
2009-06-(04-07)
Junk basket and cement to shoe
• RIH with a Mill tooth bit and a Junk Basket trying to retrieve the rest of the core bit.
• Drill the well to 2060 m and cement possible junk in hole and clog the losses.
• Fiberglass drill pipes used for the cementing job.
• TOC found at 1970 m.
2009-06-08
Stuck at 2103 m
• Continued drilling until the string got stuck at2103 m.
• Managed to get loose by pulling 160 tons.
• Circulated for 1 ½” hour.
• RIH again slowly and when the bit was onbottom the torque increased and the string wasstuck.
• Returns lost imediately and the string wasblocked for circulation.

Blind Back off
• A Blind Back off was carried out.
• A factory made up connection on the Anderdrift tool broke.
• Left in hole, 17 m of fish
• RIH with a fishing BHA without results.
2009-06-(15-22)
Cementing a Side Track plug #2 and side
track
• Cement a plug from top of fish at 2072 m and up to 1928 m (30 m inside the casing).
• Two attempts needed to get desired depth of TOC.
• Time drilling and side tracking.
• At 1985 m the bit was in formation.
• Continued drilling.
2009-06-24
Stuck in Magma!
• At 2100 m the bit was pulled up to casing and the well was cleaned. No fill was on bottom.
• At 2104 m the torque increased and the ROP doubled from 2 m/hr to 4 m/hr.
• The hook load decraesed by 40 tons.
• Managed to keep circulation and returns.
• Quenched glass in the returns.
• Proof of Magma.

Running casing and liner
• Decided to run 9 ⅝” production casing.
• Set it at the same depth as the Anchor casing1957 m and cement it to surface.
• In the open hole section a 9 ⅝” slotted liner wasset from 1957 to 2080 m.
