Drafting Basic Straight Skirt Pattern
Skirt-Is free hanging part of an outer garment.
Straight skirt
- Referred to as a pencil skirt, this skirt is a straight line with no flare or fullness at the hem or waistline.-It is a slim-fitting skirt with a straight, narrow cut line.
2 Types of Straight Skirt
-Is a skirt style just above the knee and it gives a flattering effect to the wearer.
-Is best when they end to the part of the legs that begins to taper.
PROCEDURE
(Front and Back Skirt)
1. A - From the top edge of the pattern paper, go down 2 inches (5cm.).
From point A, square or extend the line across to 15 inches (38.5cm.) for waistline level.
2. A-B is ¼ of waistline measurement.
3. B-C go out 1 inch (2.6cm) for dart allowance.
4. A-D is ½ inch (1.3cm) downward.5. D-C connects point D to C
with curve ruler.6. E is 1/8 of waistline measurement. This will be the center of dart allowance
7. E-F go out ½ inch (1.3 cm) for the dart point.
8. E-G goes out ½ inch (1.3 cm) for the other dart point.
9. E-H is 5 inches downward (13 cm) for dart length.
10. A-I is 7”downward for lower hip level.11. I-J is ¼ of lower hip measurement.12. Connect point C to point J with a curve ruler to shape the hip.
13. A-K is the skirt length measurement downward14. L is the downward
measurement of I-J. Connect point K and L.
15. K-M is ½ inch downward for hem line adjustment.16. Connect point M to L with a curve ruler.17. Connect point J to point L with a straight line
Zipper Allowance
From the side edge of the pattern paper, go in 1 inch (about 2.5 cm) and make a straight line vertically. Print “Zipper allowance on it.”
Pattern for Waistband1. A-B is 1/2 waistline measurement and makes a line2. B-C is 1.5 inches (8cm.)
for closure allowance. 3. A-D is 1 and ¼ inches (3
cm) downward for the thickness of the waistband
4. C-E is 1 and ¼ inches (3 cm) downward for the thickness of the waistband.
Make a line from D to E.5. D-F is 1 and ¼ inches (3 cm)
downward for the thickness of the waistband.
6. E-G is 1 and ¼ inches (3 cm) downward for the
thickness of the waistband. Make a line from F to G. Connect all points with a straight line.
