Media
• things with which we draw (medium=single form)
• Have different working and expressive qualities
• Choice of medium important to effect of drawing
Pencils
• B pencils = soft, darker, more graphite than clay
• H pencils – harder, lighter, more clay less graphite
• Wide range of values
Charcoal
• Wide range of values and deep intense blacks
• Vine or stick – lighter values
• Compressed – richer, blacker, harder to erase
• Charcoal pencils – hard to soft
Ink
• Black, brown and variety of colors
• Used with brushes for washes
• Pens and nubs for line drawings
Charcoal Paper bumpy, has teeth to grab and hold charcoal or pastel
Drawing paper
smooth, range of thickness, we use 80# for final pencil or ink drawings

•A rectangular opening that is in scale to your paper. •Edges used to determine where things are on paper. •Blocks out unwanted visual information
Sighting Stick
