The Oneonta State women’s basketball team went to the NCAA tourna-ment for the first time since 2001 after defeating top-seeded Buffalo
State in the championship game of the SUNYAC Tournament 50-41. Oneonta proved why it is one of the top defensive teams in Div. III and, in the end; it was that component that brought them a confer-ence title.
It was Oneonta’s sixth appearance all-time in the championship game and its second straight. The Red Dragons had the right formula for bringing home the trophy and earning the program’s third NCAA berth. Oneonta secured one of the forty auto-matic berths that are awarded to conference champions.
Szkotak reaches 1,000 point plateau
Samantha Szkotak reached the 1000 point milestone on Mon-day, Jan. 2nd in a 62-59 victory versus Gwynedd Mercy. She became the sixth women’s player to eclipse 1,000 points and graduates as the 4th all-time leading scorer with 1,263 points.
Oneonta State junior Sean Bern-stein earned All-American honors after finishing 7th at the NCAA Div. III championships hosted by Grinnell College. Bernstein crossed the line in 6.91 seconds, which was the exact time that he ran to qualify for the meet. In the pre-liminaries, he ran a personal best time of 6.90 to qualify
for the finals.
Bernstein becomes the fourth male to earn All-American honors as an individual in indoor track & field. The Red Dragons have had three relays earn All-American honors previously including a national championship in 2009. This was Bern-stein’s first appearance at the national champion-ships.
Bernstein doubled up during the SUNYAC cham-pionships, winning both the 60 and 200-meter dashes, setting a conference record in the latter. His indoor season earned him selection as the NCAA Atlantic Region Male Track Athlete of the Year.

Oneonta State Athletics host Career Athletes panel
Career Athletes is focused on providing educational and career service resources, technology solutions, and career mentoring networks...assisting and connecting current and
former student-athletes, college athletic administrators, athletic alumni organizations and hiring managers through-
out the UnitedStates.
Career Athletes possesses the largest member based com-munity of current/alumni student-athletes, representing a growing legion of athletes, athletic departments and hun-
dreds of national, regional and local employers.
Career Athletes recognizes whether it is taking a pitch to the opposite field or writing a computer program, athletes
inherently learn what it takes to be successful when they’re part of a team. They possess the emotional and mental skills that transfer for the foundation of future business
success. We also believe that success breeds success and a successful athlete tends to also become a successful mem-
ber of the workplace.
On March 9th, the Oneonta State Athletics Department hosted a career panel. The panel consisted of former
student-atheltes and one current athlete. The 2012 panel included Jared Reynolds ‘12 (Track & Field), Celia Alterio ‘11 (Track & Field), Leslie Dauphinais ‘10 (Field Hockey),
Christine LaGuardia ‘10 & ‘11 (Volleyball) and Michael Hamilton ‘09 (Wrestling).

“To do something, however small, to make others

-John Lubbock
