Getting to Know our Staff
Lauren D. Mirche, 8th Grade Reading Teacher-AVID coordinator for 2016-17
I am the proud mother of my 8 year old daughter, Emerson, and my 13 year
old step-daughter, Zoey. I have been married for almost 3 years now. I am
the oldest of five girls, and was born in Austin, Texas to two musicians. I
enjoy spending time with my family, boxing, horse-back riding, and dance in
my free time. I graduated from UT Arlington and got certified to teach soon
after. Prior to teaching, I was STUCK in the restaurant industry, working 10-
14 hour days of chaos. I always wanted to teach or counsel children. I feel so
blessed to be doing what I love every day, even if the challenges sometimes
appear larger than the rewards. I hope to stay passionate about teaching,
and love the staff I work with every day.

PBIS –Positive Behavior Interventions and Support
This week Seagoville Middle School’s role model student is River Noble, who admires Hillary Clinton because
“…she stands up for equal rights between women and men, and she is not afraid to be herself and run for
president.” River is one of our A/B Honor-Roll students. She belongs in the band class. She is also one of our office helpers. She likes to help people. “I am interested in Law because if somebody does something bad, they should not be able to just walk away.” River loves reading anything with action because it almost feels you are part of the story when you are reading it. “The book that I most like is “Allegiant” from the Divergent Series because there are a lot of plot twists to that story. I love to play the saxophone, I am can brag about me being good at it. I like anything my mom cooks for us, because she is a great cook. River helps our school by being a good role model. She never misses classes nor is she late for class ever. Keep up the great work River, we will miss you!

Celebrations & Events
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week Embracing this profession is a decision that is made with full awareness of the many hours we have to work with no other reward than seeing our students grow academically and socially. There is no monetary compensation that can match the satisfaction of saying “mission accomplished” at the end of the school year. We, the administration team, want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for all you do for our Dragons. Hats off to those who relentlessly aim to help our students, despite the many challenges faced every day; to those who no matter what the limitations are, have an every-day attitude
of Let’s Make It Happen! Thank You Teachers and Staff!!!

FYI… 2016-2017 Contract Dissemination
As you know, each semester our District sends out the climate survey to staff members in an attempt to consistently improve as an organization, gain integral feedback from our school-based employees, and to align systems to student academic achievement. To ensure confidentiality, the survey will be administered by an external organization, The Public Policy Research Institute at Texas A&M University. Last year, during the spring semester, our participation was around 77%; let's make it our goal to have at least 90% participation from teachers and staff in the Seagoville Middle School family. I want to encourage everyone to respond to an email you will receive this coming week to complete the survey. The subject line will be “Dallas ISD Climate Survey from PPRI at Texas A&M” If you do not receive the e-mail by Wednesday, May 4, 2016, please check your Junk or Clutter folder. If you do not receive the e-mail, please let me know. To avoid duplication of responses, each email will contain an individualized link to the survey; therefore, you cannot share this e-mail with anyone else. No employee ID number or other identifying information will be requested. The survey can be taken on campus, at home, or at any other location. The deadline to complete the survey is May 11, 2016.

performance in any subject or class is below 70, or whose average is deemed borderline according to District
guidelines, shall be encouraged to attend tutorial sessions complete special projects or extra credit

given additional time to complete the special projects or extra credit assignments beyond the end of the six-week
grading period.
RETESTING DURING A SIX-WEEK GRADING PERIOD
To ensure that test grades reflect content mastery, a student shall be permitted to retake any major test he or she
has failed within five school days of the date the failing grade was received or no later than ten days of the date of
the test.
If the test is passed on the second attempt, the failing grade shall be removed from the grade book, and the

Tips of the Week
Teach Like a Champion
Technique #8 “Post It”
By W. Bollin
Once your objective is complete, Post It in a visible location in your room, the same location
every day-so everyone who walks into the room, your students, as well as peers and
administrators, can identify your purpose for teaching that day in as plain English as possible.
For students, posting your objective is important because they should know what they are
trying to learn. Awareness of this fact will help them work more intentionally toward the
goal.
You can underscore its importance by asking students to discuss, review, copy, or read it as a
matter of habit at the outset or at the conclusion of each lesson. You might even make a habit
of asking your students to be able to put the objective in context, say why it matters, to
connect it to what happened yesterday, and so on.
For visitors, i.e. fellow teachers or administrators, it is important because they can give you
feedback, and feedback is more useful when the person giving it knows what you’re trying to
do. If they address not whether your teaching was “good” in some abstract sense, but
whether it appeared to be getting you to your goal. Otherwise, their advice and evaluation of
your lesson fall to idiosyncratic criteria.
