What is BLS…?
19
Introduction
CPR is a first aid, but life-saving,
emergency procedure, and must be started
without losing a second.
It is not the treatment, however.
20
Introduction……
Artificial respiration (AR) alone may be needed if
breathing has stopped suddenly though the heart is
still beating (as it happens in many cases).
However, if breathing is not re-started within 3–4
minutes, the heart will also stop.
In this case, both AR and external cardiac
compression will be required.
21
Conclusion
If breathing has stopped suddenly….
Artificial respiration (AR) alone may be needed
However, if breathing is not re-started within 3–4
minutes, the heart will also stop…..
Both AR and external cardiac compression will be
required = CPR
22
Indications
In new born infants
Drowning
Electrical Shock
Gas Poisoning
Anaesthetic complications
Life threatening emergency etc.

Four Life Threatening Emergencies
1. Cardiac arrest
2. Heart Attack
3. Stroke
4. Chocking
