    Day dress, 1927-1929

    White dupioni silk, white cotton

    Scale: 1 box = 1"

This dress is unlined and fully machine-stitched, with no fastenings. All seams and edges are

topstitched, except for the side seams, shoulders, armscye, and sleeves, as well as the seam

which connects the collar to the body. The pintucks in the shoulders and back are made before

seaming, and the sleeves are set into the armscyes before the side seams are sewn. The shoulder

seams are marked on the collar.

Both front pieces have self-fabric facings (indicated with dashed lines), and the left is sewn over

the right on the bottom and next to the decorative clear buttons. Welt pockets are sewn to each

side, with the size of the bags marked in dotted lines below them. The breast pocket on the left

side is embroidered in white silk with an abstract, asymmetrical medallion. Thread loops for a

belt are sewn where indicated on the side seams.

The sleeve is slit where indicated; the slit is covered with a placket that snaps at the wrist. The

cuff is made with two hemmed strips of silk, the narrower one on the inside. These are both

turned down, and sewn down at the edges.

The skirt is pleated as shown, and the seams meet the bodice at the points marked with

corresponding letters. The hem is turned up ", and it is backed with a 2" wide cotton lining.
