Daniels given recognition serviceThe members of Union Baptist

Church honored their Pastor, Dr.Benjamin Daniels, with a recogni-the Holiday Inn . North. Guestspeaker was Dr. W.B. Lewis, presi¬dent of the General Baptist StateConvention. Dr. Daniels receivedthe Doctorate of Ministry degreefrom Trinity Theological Seminaryin Newburgh, Indiana in November,1991.

The theme for the service was,"Rekindle the Mind for HigherAspirations and Nobler Deeds."Annie Howard, president of theGenesis Committee of SpecialEvents, presided for the evening.Thomie Douthit, chairman of theSenior Deacon Board and ClaudeRucker, co-chairman of the SeniorDeacon Board welcomed the guestswhich numbered approximately300. The Rev. Archie Logan gavethe invocation which was followedwith the recognition of members ofthe Dias by Mrs. Ivye McDanieland music by Sherwood T. Davis,minister of Music for Union BaptistChurch. ,

After the dinner, tributes weremade to Dr. Daniels by MayorMartha Wood, Alderman VivianBurke, Deacon Samuel Stimpson of

Sigmas sponsor'Open CarePackage' drive

In celebration of SigmaGamma Rho Week, the Rho Chap¬ter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,Inc. announces plans to sponsor an"Operation Care Package" drive forthe homeless.

The drive will be held todaythrough the 21, on the campus ofWinston-Salem State Universitywhere the chapter is located.

Sorors of Rho Chapter are ask¬ing students and faculty members todonate sample size or small con¬tainers of lotion, toothpaste, soap,shampoo, mouthwash, kleenex,toothbrushes, or other small itemsuseful to anyone who has virtuallyno possessions. Donations of theabove items are welcomed fromanyone in the community whowishes to give.

Items may be left in the carepackage box located in WSSU'sdining hall.

Rho Chapter will also celebrateSigma Gamma Rho week by partic¬ipating in WSSU's first annualGreek Week which is March 30 -

April 2. Sigma Gamma Rho's pro¬ject for Greek Week is "GreekClean Up Day" and a sorority dis¬play on the campus.

The chapter will also partici¬pate with other Greeks in Advisor'sDay, Dress Up Day, a Block Party,Greek Fact Day, and a Greek WeekStepshow.

Baptist Church Lexington, N.C., Dr.Jerry Drayton, pastor of New BethelBaptist Church, Dr. J. Ray ButlerModerator of the Rowan BaptistAssociation, Dr. K.O.P. Goodwin,pastor emeritus of Mt. Zion BaptistChurch, and Dr. Ronald P. Davis,pastor of St. John C.M.E. Church.

Dr. K.O.P. Goodwin, presidedin the Hooding Ceremony for Dr.Daniels with the assistance of Dr.Ronald P. Davis. Dr. Goodwin readthe charge to the pastor and thechurch afterwhich Dr. Davis gavethe prayer. .

Dr. Drayton introduced theguest speaker, Dr. W. B. Lewis whobrought the message for the

evening.Expressions from friends were

read by Brenda Butler, who with theassistance of Deacon ThomasHoward, presented Dr. Daniels witha replica of his degree mountedwith a clock from the Union Baptistcongregation.

Dr. Daniels expressed gratitudefor the event and recounted theefforts to attain the Doctorate ofMinistry degree. His mother andsister were in attendance for theevent. He also thanked his wife,Mrs. Bonnie H. Daniels whom hegave the opportunity to thank all forthe efforts in bringing about theoccasion.
