• “As literacy is the responsibility of all staff, all staff should be clear about their responsibilities and their roles in the assessment of literacy.”

• “It is expected that the literacy experiences and outcomes will be read by a range of practitioners, including those who work in school library resource centres, who make an enormous contribution to the development of the literacy skills of children and young people.”

• It doesn’t mean that every practitioner will teach everything that a secondary English teacher does. These experiences will sometimes be provided through collaborative working with other departments.

• It means asking the question, ‘How am I meeting the literacy needs of the learners in front of me?’

3.3. WritingWriting LIT 3-20aI enjoy creating texts of my choice and I am developing my own style. I can regularly select subject, purpose, format and resources to suit the needs of my audience.

LIT 3-21aI can use a range of strategies and resources and spell most of the words I need to use, including specialist vocabulary, and ensure that my spelling is accurate.

LIT 3-22aAs appropriate to my purpose and type of text, I can punctuate and structure different types of sentences with sufficient accuracy, and arrange these to makemeaning clear, showing straightforward relationships between paragraphs.

LIT 3-23aThroughout the writing process, I can review and edit my writing to ensure that it meets its purpose and communicates meaning at first reading.

LIT 3-24aI can consider the impact that layout and presentation will have on my reader, selecting and using a variety of features appropriate to purpose and audience.
