The Alabama and Central Gulf RegionBiomedical Services of the American RedCross staged a blood collection drive atCamp Shelby Joint Forces Training Centeron Nov.22.

“We need so many units a day, so wealways come out with goals that we try tomeet or exceed,” said Team SupervisorSally Smith. “Hospitals depend on theblood we collect, which helps prevent sur-

geries and other procedures from beingpostponed due to lack of available bloodsupplies.”

The team collected 20 productive unitsfrom 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. toward their goal of21, and Smith said that each donation helpsthree people.

There is always a demand for blood inthe central Gulf Coast area, she said, and itgoes wherever it is needed.

“We’ve had a great response,” saidSmith, “and we really appreciate every-one’s donation.”
