Step2.TohavestudentsenrolledintoExamSoftandassociatedwithyourcourse,logintotheWebHelpDesk.FollowonscreenpromptstosubmityourExamSoftcourse‘sync’request

Step3.LOGINOnceyouraccounthasbeensetup,youwillreceiveanemaillettingyouknowwhichdatabasetoaccess.Logintotheappropriatedatabase:

SelectUSERLOGINfromtheupperright,andbegintypingthenameoftheuniversitytofindyourschool,andtheappropriatedatabase.

Step4.CREATINGQUESTIONSOnceloggedin,selecttheQuestionstab,topleft.

IfafolderhasbeencreatedforyouintheQuestionsfield,orifyouhavebeengivenaccesstoanexistingfolder,youshouldseeitinthelistingonleft.Youcancreatesub-foldersinthatfolderbyclickingthegeariconadjacenttothatfoldertitle,andselectingNEWFOLDER.

Youwillneedtogiveeachnewquestionatitleandindicatethefoldertowhichitbelongs.NOTES

• Asabeginner,itisnotrecommendedthatyoumake“Categories”now.Categoriesareusedtohelprunassessmentreports.Onceyouhavemoreexperiencewiththesystem,youcanaddcategorieslater.

• SeetheExamSoftQuickReferenceGuideforhelpwithcreatingeachtypeofquestion.SaveandApproveeachquestion.Unsavedquestionsareconsidered“draft”questionsandcannotbeusedinatestyet.Youcanaddattachmentsifyouneedtoaddillustrations.

Step5.CREATINGANASSESSMENT(TEST)SelecttheAssessmentstab.UseanexistingAssessmentfolderormakeanewfolder,asdescribedabove.Youmaycreatesub-folderswithinyourownfolders,ifneeded.Selectthe“gear”icononthelinethatislabeledEXAMS.IMPORTANT-Pleasefollowthisnamingconvention:

• UseyourCourseIDandNametolabelyourfolder.Example:EDU595• Youmaythenwishtomakesub-foldersinwhichtostorequestions.Example:“MidtermExam”.

ThenclicktheCreateNewAssessmentbutton.

Next,you’llneedtogivetheAssessmentatitle(example“PracticeTest”)andthenindicatethefolderinwhichtostoreit.YoumaywishtocreateanoticethatcanbeemailedtoyourstudentspriortotheexamusingtheAddCustomNoticebutton.

NowyouarereadytoaddquestionstotheAssessment.ClicktheAddQuestionstoAssessmentButton,selectthequestionyouwishtoadd,thenAddSelectedtoAssessment.Youcanalwaysclicktheredbuttonnexttoaquestiontoremoveitlaterifyouwantto.

Step6.PREVIEWYOURTESTClickthePreviewButtonatthebottomofthescreen.NotethatyouwillneedtohaveinstalledtheSofTestapptodothis.Therewillbealinktodownloaditifyouhaven’tdonethispreviously.

LaunchSofTestandthenclickloginasExamTaker.LoginwithyourSUNetworkandCanvascredentials.Then,chooseyourexamtopreviewfromthedrop-downmenuandfollowtheon-screeninstructionstotryyourtest.Youcanthengobackandedityourquestionsortestasneedbe(rememberthatyouwillhavetogoundertheQuestionsmenutoedittestyourquestions)andthenpreviewitagainuntilyouarehappywithit.

Step7.POSTYOURASSESSMENTFromtheAssessmentsscreen,clickPostAssessment.Takecarewiththisnextscreenandseethescreenshotbelow.BesuretochooseyourcourseanddonotselectAvailabletoallExamTakersorthiswillgotoallstudentsinthedatabase,notjustyourcourse.

IMPORTANTTIPS

• Createanassessmentpassword,butDON’Tuseadownloadpassword.Leavethatblank.• FillinthedatesandtimesCAREFULLY.Allowfordownloadsatleast15minutesintoyourclassto

handlelatecomers.• ClickthebuttonforSecureReview.THISCANNOTBEDONELATER.Youcontrolwhenstudents

canreviewitbecausetheycan’tseeituntilyougivethemthepassword.FINALNOTESExamSofthasalotoffeaturesthatarenotcoveredhere.Thisguideisintendedjusttogetyoustarted.You’llbeabletoexperimentwithmorefeaturesafteryouhavesuccessfullydeployedatestafewtimes.Pleasenote,however,thatatthistime,wearenotimplementingtheRubricsfeatureasthereisasignificantextracostforthisfeature.Itisstronglyrecommendedthatyoutryamocktestwithyoustudentsatleastaweekpriortoarealtestsothatbothyouandyourstudentshaveachancetolearnthesystem.Dothisatleastonceeachterm.
