A reminder that 4-H’ers must be enrolled! We encourage this to be completed by December 1! Thank you to the 275 members that have already completed it!
Enclosed you will find information about the upcoming Annual 4-H Recognition Event, Holiday Evergreen Make and Take Workshop, and ways to help out the Pioneer Christmas Village!
There are still two masterpieces created from the Bucket of Junk contest that were left behind at the fair! We need the owners to claim these by December 15!
The Extension and Outreach Office will be getting new carpet the first weekend in December. We will be in the office on Friday, December 2 and Monday, December 5 but will be in the process of moving all the equipment and furniture. If you call and we don’t get to the phone, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can!

MARKET BEEF WEIGH-IN
All Plymouth County 4-H and FFA members with a
market beef animal will need to weigh and
identify their market animals at the Plymouth
County weigh-in site on Saturday, December 17,
2016 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Please note that
the last hour from 12:00-1:00 p.m. is when any out
of county exhibitors will be scheduled to weigh.
You can still come during that time, that’s just
when they will be scheduled with approval from
their county office. Weigh-in takes place at the
Plymouth County Fairgrounds in the scale barn
just east of the covered show ring. All Plymouth
County 4-H’ers will need to make arrangements
to have their market beef projects weighed at the
Plymouth County site. December 17th is when
your 4-H project begins and you must have all
market beef animals in your possession by this
date. Each member may identify a maximum of
six head. If there is an emergency and this date
does not work you must first contact our office.
No animals that will be exhibited at the county fair
can be purchased after the weigh-in date and
weighed in at another location.
COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING REMINDER
The next meeting of the County Council will be on
Thursday, November 3 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at
the Extension & Outreach Office. Members
should notify Ann prior to the meeting if they are
not able to attend due to a church/school event!
NEW CHECK OUT KIT AVAILABLE
We have a new kit available for check out at the
Extension and Outreach Office. It has everything
you want to learn about Dairy Goats! This would
be a great resource to get some fair exhibit ideas
or do a presentation on for your next club meeting!
Let us know if you would like to reserve it!
4-H RECOGNITION EVENT
Mark your calendars to attend the annual 4-H
Recognition Event on Sunday, November 20 at
4:00 p.m. in the Upper Level of the Convention
Center. All clubs are recognized and members
introduced on stage! It’s a great way to see what
opportunities are available as seniors!
Outstanding Juniors and Intermediates are also
recognized as well as special adult awards!
Cookies and juice are served after the program!
Hope to see you all there! We ask that members
sit with their clubs on the outside aisles and
families sit in the center section.

WORKSHOP
Would you like to learn how to make your own Evergreen Kissing Ball to use for decoration at your home this holiday season? In this session, you will learn how to create your own Evergreen Kissing Ball from evergreens and a few other supplies. This make and take workshop will be held on Monday, December 5th at the ISU Extension and Outreach Plymouth County Office in the lower level of the Le Mars Convention Center from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. Please call the office at 712-546-7835 or email Janelle at [email protected] to register. DUPONT PIONEER SEED GRANT
DuPont Pioneer Seed is once again offering
grants for 4-H Club Community Service projects.
The applications are due to the County Extension
and Outreach Office by January 17, 2017. Grants
will be awarded from $50-$500 but typically will
not exceed half of the cost of the total project.
Successful projects are those that enlist
partnerships with other community entities,
engage the entire club, and make an impact in the
community. More information, tips, application
form, and brochure are available at

4-H’ers must be in good standing with their
county in order to participate in state or
interstate 4-H shows according to the State
Livestock Handbook document 4-H 202.
Extension & Outreach staff will not approve
entries for these shows if 4-H’ers and their
families have not been in compliance with
county guidelines.
Direct criticism or interference with the judge,
fair officials, show coordinators,
superintendents, volunteers, staff, or other
exhibitors before, during or after the
competitive event is prohibited. Parents shall
not enter the show ring during the event unless
it involves the health and safety of the
exhibitor. In furtherance of their official duty,
these official, volunteers, and staff shall be
treated with courtesy, cooperation, and
respect. If this rule is broken the parent will be
asked to leave the fairgrounds and the
exhibitor will be disqualified from the rest of
that show. If the confrontation continues, the
exhibitor may be disqualified from the fair and
asked to leave the fairgrounds and forfeit all
premiums. This will be determined by
Extension & Outreach staff, Extension Council
and Fairboard. This could result in the family
being banned from exhibiting at other state
and interstate exhibitions as well.
REMINDER OF LIVESTOCK HOUSING POLICY
The following policy has been set forth by the 4-H & Youth Committee for several years and is supported by the Plymouth County Extension Council and Plymouth County Fairboard. This is a no tolerance policy. Failure to abide by this policy will result in not exhibiting at the Plymouth County Fair. This is a reminder to all livestock exhibitors as we start the new 4-H year. It is not the leader’s responsibility to follow these guidelines, it is up to each family. Should you have any questions, you will need to contact the Plymouth County Extension & Outreach Office at
712-546-7835.
4-H families that live on a farm/acreage with any
kind of livestock housing will be expected to have
ALL of their 4-H livestock project (beef, sheep,
swine, and poultry) housed there. If alternative
arrangements need to be made, the location must
be approved by the Extension and Outreach
Office and 4-H & Youth Committee. This means
you must call or email the Extension and
Outreach Office with the request so that it can be
put on the agenda for the next 4-H & Youth Com-
mittee meeting and then discussed and voted on!
We ask that the alternative address be written on
identification forms.
If the 4-H’er does not have ANY facilities at the
location where they live, alternative housing is
acceptable as long as it’s preapproved and meets
the following criteria: The project needs to be
within close proximity for the 4-H’er to easily care
for that animal on a daily basis. For exam-
ple, if Johnny 4-H’er lives in town and his sheep
are kept at his Grandpa’s place six miles out of
town on the farm then Grandpa’s address will
need to be on the identification form. It is not ac-
ceptable for the project to be 40 miles away at a
friend’s farm. The 4-H’er needs to be the one in
charge of that project and the primary care
giver of that project as they have signed
during enrollment on the Code of Ethics.

STATE TRAINING FOR ALL LEADERS
Each year all 4-H leaders are required to take part in an educational training from the State 4-H Office to further develop their exceptional skills of working with youth. This year’s training will take place on Monday, January 30 in the lower level of the Convention Center (Snow date is February 7). Supper will be served at 6:15 p.m. with the training starting from 6:30-8:00 p.m. This year’s training topic is Youth Engagement Strengthens 4-H. It is an interactive, hands on training that will help volunteers engage youth in intentional, meaningful ways. By creating opportunities for youth to make decisions, take on responsibilities, and contribute to improving outcomes for themselves and others, we are providing opportunities for youth to build mastery in decision making skills as well as reinforce their work towards independence. During this training, 4-H leaders will gain an understanding of the importance of youth involvement, identify strategies that support positive youth adult partnerships and gather resources to aid in engaging youth in core principles of positive youth development. In addition, volunteers will practice how to empower youth of all ages to make 4-H more engaging. Please RSVP to [email protected]
MONSANTO GRANT
America's Farmers Grow Communities is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund to support local farming communities. The program allows farmers to register to win $2,500 for their favorite community nonprofit organization, such as FFA, 4-H, schools, fire departments and other civic groups. One winner will be selected in each of 1,331 eligible counties in 41 states. For more information and to apply, please visit www.growcommunities.com
Entries are due by November 30, 2016. Any farmer that is at least 21 years old and actively engaged in farming a minimum of 250 acres of corn, soybeans, or cotton is eligible with no purchase required. Only one organization will be chosen per county and it only takes a few minutes to apply!
There’s still some 75th Fair Anniversary memorabilia
left! Contact Pat Lehner if you are interested! These
items would make great Christmas gifts!
FAIR GRAND CHAMPION TRAVELING

Nov. 7-11: People’s Bank-Akron

PIONEER CHRISTMAS VILLAGE
Each year the Pioneer Village at the Fairgrounds
comes alive with Christmas lights and music during
the Holiday season! The Christmas Village
committee puts together a fantastic place for
families to visit on the first two weekends of
December! They couldn’t do this without the
support of all of you! They greatly appreciate those
clubs that decorate trees and most importantly
those that donate homemade cookies! They invite
each club to donate 15 dozen cookies to the
cause. This helps keep their costs down so they
can do things like put new LED lights on the roof of
the Round Barn. The Christmas Village Committee
thanks you for your efforts! Please contact Bonita
Davison (540-3442) with questions about cookie
drop off times at Century Hall. THEY DO NOT
GET DROPPED OFF AT THE EXTENSION AND
OUTREACH OFFICE!
Clubs are also invited to decorate a tree that will be
on display in Century Hall during the Pioneer
Christmas Wonderland! You may decorate the
tree on November 18 for 19 from 9 am—4 pm.
The trees are provided. You need to supply your
own lights and decorations. Trees need to be
taken down on Sunday, December 11 following the
event or Monday, December 12 from 9 am-noon.
The form to send in to the Pioneer Village
Committee is in your club mailbox at the Extension
and Outreach Office. It is also available on our
website.

4-H ENROLLMENT FOR ALL MEMBERS AND
LEADERS
The 4-H Online enrollment system has rolled over
and is ready for enrollments to begin. All existing
members and leaders in the system become
inactive. Everyone must log in and re-enroll for
the current year! The website is:
https://ia.4honline.com
This must be done each year, just like you would
enroll in school or update your records at a
doctor’s visit. If your family already exists in the
system, DO NOT CREATE A NEW PROFILE! We
can look up your log in email, but we can not see
passwords. If you forgot your password, just click
I forgot my password and a new one will be
emailed to you. As you work through the screens
be sure to double check spellings, grades,
birthdates, etc. Several of you informed us of
errors in this information when making a fair entry
this past fair...that information all comes from what
you put into 4-H Online...so now is the time to get
it corrected!
If your member is 18 years old, they are still a
youth! Do not enroll them as an adult or you will
be re-doing it!
4-H Online enrollment is only for 4-H members in
grades 4-12 and club leaders! Clover Kids should
not enroll in this system!
For brand new families, first create a new profile
and then proceed through the screens of adding
youth members. We do have a help sheet on our
website and club leaders received a copy at the
Leader Meeting. The last screen will appear to be
a payment screen. We pay that fee so just
continue through until you get to the submit
button. No fee will be charged to you.
Once enrollments have been submitted they come
to us and will show as pending. We will then
process these and approve them. At that point the
status becomes active. There is no need to call
and see if you did it right...just wait for the status
to go from pending to active!
