What we will do
We leave the port by coach and head to the Gateway of India where we board a motor boat for Elephanta island.
When we reach the island, we take a 5 minute train ride or, if the train is not running, a 20 minute walk to a point below the
caves from where 120 steps lead us to the entrance of the caves.
The caves, which date back to the 8thcentury AD, contain incredible sculptures depicting scenes from Indian mythology. Our
guide illustrates the hidden story behind every sculpture, the most impressive of which is without doubt the one depicting the
trilogy of Brahma (The Creator), Vishnu (The Preserver) and Shiva (The Destroyer).
At the end of the visit our boat takes us back to the Gateway of India, where we proceed to the restaurant.
After lunch, we set off to explore Mumbai's most important sites. Walking through the city, we'll see the Prince of Wales
Museum with its enormous dome which is said to have been inspired by the Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur, and the Jehangir Art
Gallery. We then pass by the University of Mumbai and the Supreme Court Building and head for the Rajabai Clock Tower,
designed by a British architect and modelled on Big Ben in London. A short distance from Chowpatty beach we stop to admire

lights look like a pearl necklace. Our visit proceeds past the Jain Temple and the Hanging Gardens up to Dhobi Ghat: an
enormous open-air washhouse where there is an incessant flurry of washing by hand, a custom that is still popular among
locals despite the advent of modern washing machines. We stop briefly in this area to take photos, a perfect opportunity to
take a picture of the Parsi Towers of Silence, a sacred place for the Parsi community and therefore inaccessible to other
people.
The next stop is the Mani Bhavan museum, once the residence of the "Father of the Nation" Mahatma Ghandi who lived in
Mumbai from 1917 to 1934.
Finally, before returning to the port, we pass Chatrapati Shivaji, the old railway station and the city's most imposing Gothic
building, and the Asiatic Society Library.
The itinerary may be subject to change.
There is only one train to the Elephanta caves; in the unlikely event that it is not running we have to walk for 20-25 minutes
before we can climb the 120 steps to the entrance to the caves. The same applies on the way back. Comfortable shoes with
rubber soles are therefore recommended.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
You need to be physically fit to take part in this excursion.
This excursion is not recommended for guests with mobility problems.

Cruise on the backwaters
Tropical vegetation
Activities of the village residents
Typical lunch
What we will do
From Kochi we take the coach towards Alappuzha, previously known as Alleppey, making a brief stop on the way.
We arrive in Alappuzha, situated in a dense network of leafy tropical canals, and board the boat for an idyllic journey along the
so-called backwaters, rivers, lakes and canals that connect the coast to the southern interior part of Kochi. For centuries these
canals have been a secure, efficient mode of transport for goods and people moving from the interior to the coastal towns.
We enjoy a delicious welcome drink and, in the comfort of our boat, we will sail along the glistening canals with abundant
tropical vegetation, admiring the majestic forests, lagoons and the outskirts of the city dotted with palm trees.
We also see the village residents bathing and washing their clothes, and the livestock on the riverbank.
Having feasted our eyes on so much beauty, we will now also indulge our palates with a typical lunch served on board, before

What we will do
Our visit to Kochi begins in the district where the first settlers were Portuguese: Fort Kochi, home to various vestiges of the
colonial era such as St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India, built by the Portuguese.
We then visit many more fascinating attractions, including the Chinese fishing nets, a powerful symbol of the centuries-old
Chinese influence on this coast and the famous local fish market where locals eat freshly caught fish that has just been
cooked.
We then go on to visit Santa Cruz Basilica whose foundations were laid in 1505, again by the Portuguese.
Arriving at the Mattancherry district we can admire the Dutch Palace, built by the Portuguese in 1555 and renovated by the
Dutch in 1663. The building is renowned for the frescoes featuring scenes from the Ramayana and the Puranas legends
linked to Hindu gods.
Another community that has left its mark on this city is the Jewish community, which has a street named in its honour. Here
we admire the typical houses and the shops of various kinds, from grocers to antiques shops. At the end of the street is the
Synagogue, the oldest in the entire Commonwealth. It was built in 1568 and is famous for its hand-painted blue Cantonese
majolica tiles.
Some coaches are not air conditioned.
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
Dress code that is appropriate for the places of worship to be visited is recommended.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Spectacular countryside with backwaters and fish farms
What we will do
We travel from the port to the village of Kumbalangi, the starting point for our enchanting cruise, which offers an opportunity
to observe the various local fishing techniques including veesuvala and padal.
After leaving the boat we head for the village, where we are divided into small groups to watch the locals going about their
day to day business: catching crabs and fish, preparing coconut milk punch, processing shellfish and coconut fibres, weaving
rugs and oola madayal (special coconut leaves woven to create a roof covering), and making fishing nets.
For lunch we enjoy local specialities in an open-air area with a view of the Chinese fishing nets resting on the surface of the
water. We can see the way these nets are used and how the fishing system known as papu mari works.
Such an exciting day would not be complete without a Kolkali performance, a traditional dance in which the dancers move in a
circle, singing and dancing and tapping each other with sticks.
And that is not all: after the performance we enjoy a brief rickshaw ride through the narrow streets of the village
Our trip has come to an end and we return to Kochi, travelling through spectacular countryside with backwaters and fish
farms on either side of the road.

We will leave the port of Colombo by coach and head towards Pinnawela, one of the island's most famous attractions.
After a scenic journey of over two hours, we finally arrive at the Elephant orphanage, located in a park which spans a surface
area of approximately 25 hectares. The elephant orphanage was created upon the request of the Government of Sri Lanka in
order to take care of orphaned elephants. In 1975, the year it was established, the park was home to just 7 elephants. Today,
it is home to over 60 (of which 50 baby elephants) which have been found abandoned in the forest.
We will have the chance to see how the elephants are fed and looked after by the park's staff. Before returning to the ship, we
will enjoy a buffet lunch.
The coach transfer from Colombo to Pinnawela takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
This excursion is not recommended for guests with mobility problems.
Comfortable shoes and sportswear are recommended.

What we will do
We will leave the port by coach and begin our scenic tour of the city of Pettah Bazar. As is often the case in developing
countries, the appearance of Colombo is destined to change rapidly, with older buildings making way for skyscrapers and
decidedly more modern constructions. The renewed spirit of the capital therefore alternates with older areas where tradition
still dominates.
We will stop in the Cinnamon Gardens district to take photos, before proceeding towards the former parliament building, in
the Fort district.
The tour will continue to St. Lucia's Cathedral and we will also visit the Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple. Subsequently, we will
pass by Viharamahadevi Park.
At this stage, we will visit the famous National Museum of Colombo, to observe close-up, the remains of the English colonial
period, as well as paintings, sculptures, masks and clothing testifying to the customs of local tribes.
Before returning to the ship, we will stop for a little shopping.
The National Museum of Colombo may be closed without prior notice to permit restoration works ordered by the Archaeology
Department of Sri Lanka.
The itinerary may be subject to change.
When visiting the Buddhist Temple of Gangaramaya, you must remove your shoes and wear socks.
In order to take photos or film videos within the temple, you must purchase the necessary tickets.
Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
