The national testing undertaken by all
students in Years 3 and 5 across Australia
(NAPLAN) will be held next week. This is
not an assessment which should be feared;
rather it is something that often provides
valuable information for schools on how they
are performing and for parents how their
child/children are progressing relative to all
other students at the same stage of their
schooling across Australia.

A huge Thank You goes out to those students who participated in the school ANZAC Day Service held on Thursday the 28th of April. Ian Whittall, Charlie Knight, Jarrod Lambert, Ashleigh Smith, Phoebe Collier, Tyler Frazer, Jessie Dumble, Zak Kelly, Daisy Andrews, Oska Brooker, Grace Colantonio, Tyrone Walker, Jake McGlashan, Alison Green, Brooke Meier and George Border.
These `students read an ANZAC poem and conducted the service with pride.
Also Thank You to our special guests Kevin Barrington, Bruce Breckenridge, Mr and Mrs Pengilly and Vincent Morrissey.
At the conclusion of Term 1, Stage 3 students had great fun coming to school dressed up as an “Aussie” and enjoyed some good old fashioned snags cooked on the barbie to conclude their unit of work on Australian Identity. Following a parade of the Aussie fashions, all students received a certificate and small treat for their costumes. The best dressed winners for the day were: First in Year 5– Riarna Milgate who was Bindi Irwin and Charlie Knight who came to school as Captain Cook. Second in Year 5– Clayton Carr who was a typical Aussie man and Ebony Whalan who was the vegemite kid. First Year 6– Logan Sim who was a traditional swaggie and Tyler Shoobert who made an impressive Fred Hollows. Second in Year 6-Jed McEvoy who was a stockman and Molly Atkinson who was Heath Ledger from The Dark Knight. Well Done to all those stage three students who participated in our Aussie Day.
Stage 3
Level One Stage 3 students enjoyed a morning at Flix in the Sticks at the conclusion of Term 1 as their Level One reward. They watched the hilarious movie Despicable Me. Thankyou to the people at Flix in the Stick for allowing us to use this great facility.
On the second last day of last term the final selection trial for the Area Opens Rugby
League Team was held at Tamworth.
As a result of their performances there two of our boys, Nick Willoughby and Jake
McGlashan were selected to represent North-west NSW at the State Carnival to be held
at Kiama in June.
The positions the boys play are: Jake a winger.
Nick a centre
We wish you all the best for that carnival where they
will play against the best 12 and 13 year old primary
school rugby league players in NSW.
Congratulations boys on a job well done!

5-6 V had a very busy Term 1 settling into their beautiful new classroom. We trialled our detective skills learning about our Australian identity with the Cap Collie Challenge. This challenge involved researching many Australian Places and significant famous people. From this research we had to use a process of elimination after receiving daily clues from the Cap website to solve what places and people Collie the mischievous garden gnome visited on his trip around Australia. Some other highlights of the first term were class “master chef” where we had to cook in small groups., the bullseye bee rewards, CSIRO visit, the cap cubs day, our radio program on Thursday’s, IKI workshops and working in small groups in our classroom to create famous Australian icons.
