License Procedure for Radio Stations Any person who wishes to establish and operate a radio station in Japan shall obtain a radio station license. To
obtain the license, it is required to comply with technical regulations in accordance with Chapter 3 of the Radio
Law and the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment. The Certification of Specified Radio Equipment*
demonstrates whether or not the technical regulations are complied with and simplifies the licensing process.

* In order to demonstrate the specific radio equipment certified on the basis of the new construction type, reattachment of the Conformity Mark is necessary.
*Reattachment of the Conformity Mark on the basis of the new construction type is not needed if the radio equipment has the Conformity Mark, which is already on the market, and conforms to a new construction type without a construction change.

1. Current situation (1) December 16 2011,Introduced simplification of the mark for the specific radio equipment prescribed in 38-2-2 paragraph 1 item 1(unlicensed station) and 38 -2-2 paragraph 1 item 2 (blanket license) in the Radio Law. Transitional measure for 6 months from the introduction was established. (2) On the same day, introduced a system whereby reattachment of the Mark is unnecessary for radio equipment with the conformity mark for certification of a construction type based on the old system at the time of enforcement, if a new certification is added without a construction change.
