• Office apps name files for you– Word: Document1– Excel: Book1– Power Point: Presentation1

• Don’t use these names!• Use descriptive names

File Types

• File name gives clues, but…• Extension (in Windows) tells the

type– .bmp for bitmap files (pictures)– .doc and .docx for Word document

files

• Double-click a .doc (or .docx) file to open the file and Word at the same time

Saving Files

• Saving existing file– Office Button |

• Product/Version Incompatibility– Manifests as an unknown type of file– Fix is to upgrade to newer version

• File corruption– Load from backup

recently used files list
