Core Business Services
Integrated Site designs are done in detail, from Water Reticulation Design, Sewerage and Stormwater
Management. Overall site Layouts are done showing all services within the site with inclusive servitude
and building lines considerations. Civil Engineering Designs are done on survey layouts from reputable
land surveyors, giving the client reliable terrain information for their projects.
Autodesk AutoCAD software and AutoCAD Civil 3D are preferred as the primary design and
draughting software, inputs to these software are developed using design and analysis standards
recognised in Engineering Statutory bodies. Designs are presented using construction ready
documentation, 3D models are done to provide for realistic representation of the concepts pre-
construction. Technical Design Reports for projects with these requirements are provided as a complete
package with all other construction documentation.
Well managed Client communication is kept throughout project lifespan.
Our project management philosophy is based on advanced computerised project management. This type
of project management allows for multi-stage planning and management of complex and
multidisciplinary projects. Some of the programs that we use for these are Microsoft Project and
Microsoft Excel. MarGad’s management strategies pivot around good record keeping, and resource
management, all augmented with above par occupational health and safety considerations.
Architectural designs at MarGad pivot around Structural Engineering, and the two disciplines
supplement one another. With these designs, 3D models are designed and presented in simulations
depicting construction methodology and therefore assists in practical and efficient construction
planning. This systematic and futuristic design philosophy is augmented by 3D printing Technology
done in-house, which adds a presentation edge and gives clients realistic ideas of their intended finished
products.
Due to the complex nature of Engineering projects and projects in the built environment, MarGad Group
has a list of associates who provide in-house multidisciplinary Engineering expertise and innovation
when needed in order to deliver projects which cover different engineering vantage points, and thereby
giving our Clients the benefit of combined Engineering Excellence.

Adopted Quality Management
Quality control for all works will be monitored and ensured by following a set of principles as outlined
in this document.
Site technical staff designated for each sub task will control compliance with prescribed specification
standards. The specific technician(s) responsible for that work area will monitor workmanship quality,
while materials the field laboratory technician(s) from an approved materials laboratory will perform
quality and acceptance.
The site engineer will control all measurements, and finances. He will record and measure works on a
daily basis, to facilitate accurate and compliance to the construction program developed. Measurement
data as required by the client will be furnished by the required day of the following month in accordance
with the required format.
The contractor’s proposed work programme will be adhered to in order to check the progress on a
weekly basis, this will help in keeping within the given time-frame for completion within reason.
Progress schedule and graphs will be maintained in order to monitor and report progress.
Monthly measurements will be prepared in conjunction with the Engineer and interim invoices
prepared. At completion of the contract a final measurement will be done. Measurement data will be
shown in monthly progress reports and furnished to the client by a chosen date of the month for
inclusion in his budgets of cash flow.
Estimates of final quantities to complete the work will be prepared every 3 months. Simultaneously the
estimated time for completion will be calculated and the client informed of any projected overrun of
schedule. The completed works will be inspected jointly with the client, deficiency lists will be
prepared, and corrections monitored.
Test are to be conducted on a regular basis per unit; these will include concrete cube crushing tests for
all concrete cast in-situ and also compaction tests on all compacted earth works. 3 day and 28 day cube
tests will be taken and recorded in order to show concrete strengths as required per the designs. Brick
crushing tests are to be conducted on each delivery of bricks and recorded.
Control of Quality of Works.
Control of Quantities
Monitoring progress
Laboratory Tests
7
Claims will be managed and variation orders applied for in terms of the contract, if any are necessary.
All claims submitted to the project manager will be based on completed tasks as per the indicative
milestone program.
Monthly and accumulative financial progress will be monitored against a standard S-curve envelope.
Contract and supervision accumulative costs will be reported monthly and a forecast based on this
information will be made every 3 months so that the projected completion cost can be monitored.
We believe that good project management involves the continuous daily recording of information as it
occurs. Electronic and handwritten diaries are kept including information regarding the following
aspects will be recorded daily:
Liaison with Clients and all interested parties in a particular project
Design meetings with all professionals on a project
Weather and meteorological conditions for site management
Contractor’s plant and personnel in a construction project
Materials deliveries.
Work activities in progress.

This project manager will compile reports containing information on the project in a form that is
concise, graphic where possible, and accurate, so that the client may make decisions with confidence.
Project reporting as developed by the personnel proposed for the management of the works, conforms
to this requirement and has been used successfully on similar projects.
State of the art computer software will be used to compile these reports, the format of which will be
agreed upon with the client prior to the start of the works. Reports to be prepared will include the
following:
Daily record reports by inspectors of all site conditions and activities.
Weekly progress reports and summary by resident engineer.
Monthly detailed reports including financial progress.
Completion report including as-built records.
Quarterly summary reports.
Task Description
The objective of this task is to control and reduce negative environmental impacts and to identify areas
where positive contributions can be made for improvement to the environment during construction and
sustainability of such mechanisms for the future.
Methodology
Liaison with the contractor prior to commencement of construction will ensure that the contractor
understand the environmental specifications and to introduce them to site specific issues. The contractor
will also be familiarized with the communication structures that have been established.
Liaison with Interested Parties in a Project
Reporting
Monitoring Environmental Compliance
9
Ongoing site monitoring will be carried out during the construction phase. The purpose will be to ensure
that the specifications in the environmental management plan are adhered to and to continually test the
validity of the mitigation measures on site, especially with reference to how the local community
experience the presence of the construction activity.
The consultant proposes regular monitoring and supervision. Monitoring will be undertaken through
the office of the Resident Engineer. The function of this monitoring will be;
To ensure the contractor’s compliance with the general and special environmental provisions
of contract;
To maintain communication with the communities through the community liaison officer;
To maintain records of environmental aspects of construction.
To assist in the resolution of day to day construction problems which arise on the construction
site.
To provide regular feedback to the resident engineer, client and local community
representatives concerning environmental aspects of the project. Site visit reports will be
compiled following each visit. It is proposed that the environmental monitors visit the site once
every alternate month during construction.
Monitoring of rehabilitation and erosion control will be continued after construction until the expiry of
the contractor’s liability period for rehabilitation (assumed to be one year). Two site visits will be made
during this period and a final closure report will be submitted to the client following the second visit.
Any outstanding environmental issues will be highlighted in this report.

to measure air pollution content easily through their phones.
Duration: August 2011
Voluntary involvement
I was part of a project called Free High School Science Texts. The aim of the project is to make scientific
knowledge (in the form of textbooks) openly available to learners in South Africa. In my short
involvement (I was active for 2 months in 2011) in this project I have been involved in uploading past
papers and solutions to an open website (http://www.fullmarks.org.za/) whereby learners can access
content freely. This initiative is powered by the Shuttleworth Foundation. All our combined efforts also
eventually resulted in a series of free textbooks for Maths and Science. One of the books is called
Everything Science.
Localisation of Software
I have worked on translating a bit of Ubuntu Linux Software into my home language - Sepedi (Northern
Sotho). I am the group creator and owner of the Northern Sotho Translation Group but I have stopped
translating since I noticed that there is a quite a small amount of Sepedi users of the Operating System
– Furthermore I was finding it difficult to get translators (translations were done on
https://launchpad.net/). I feel strongly that we have to preserve our languages and culture we need to
get them to be used in the ‘computer society’. It is unfortunate that most software which is open to the
community (e.g. people can translate the software into their language) is not as widely used as closed
source.

Code of Ethics (Credo of the African Engineer)
MarGad Group subscribes to the code of ethics as translated from the below citation from Makhetha’s
Credo of the African Engineer:
“I am an Engineer and in my profession I take deep pride. To it I owe solemn obligations.
Since the origins of humanity on the continent of Africa, human progress has been spurred by the
engineering genius.
Engineers have made usable nature’s vast resources of material and energy for humanity’s benefit.
Engineers have vitalised, and turned to practical use, the principles of science and the means of
technology. Were it not for this heritage of accumulated experience, my efforts would be feeble.
As an Engineer, I pledge to practice integrity and fair dealing, tolerance and respect, and to uphold
devotion to the standards and the dignity of my profession, conscious always that my skill carries with
it the obligation to serve humanity by making the most sustainable use of Earth’s precious resources.
As an Engineer, I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. When needed, my skill and
knowledge shall be given without reservation for the public good. In the performance of duty and in
fidelity to my profession, I shall give the utmost.”
