Pet TipsSpringtime Pet SafetyAllergies. Just like people, pets can have
allergies too. Pets that are allergic to pollen
will have runny noses and will have itchy
ears and noses. Skin allergies are possible
if your pet gets into some deep vegetation.
Itchy skin, licking at the base of the tail
and paws are signs of allergies and can
cause a rash.
Yard and Garden hazards. The insecticides,
herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers many
people apply in the spring to bring their
lawns and gardens back to life are full of
chemicals that are dangerous for pets.
Take care not to allow your dog or cat access
to areas of your property where chemicals
have been applied, and be sure to store all
potentially toxic products out of reach.
Pretty Poisons. Before you stock up on seeds
or visit your local nursery, make sure you
know which plants, f lowers and greenery
are toxic to your pet if ingested.
Warm weather Parasites. Work with a
holistic veterinarian in your area to decide
what kinds of parasite preventives your
pets need to keep them free of f leas, ticks,
heartworm and other parasites throughout
the spring and summer months.

What about OIL ? Environmental green leaders in the oil change industry are recycling waste items such as used oil, packaging cardboards, paper products, used batteries, oil filters and used antifreeze f luids among other things. By recycling these items they are not just preventing it from going to a landfill, but are contributing to giving waste a new life as something else. For example, used motor oil
can be reprocessed and used for asphalt, utility boilers and paper mills, and antifreeze f luids can be re-used for deicing airplanes. Just one gallon of used motor oil can contaminate 1 million gallons of water, so it’s always important to dispose of oil properly.
PAINTNo longer does “going green” mean a sacrifice in paint or color quality. The eco-friendly paint market has grown and evolved: new paints perform like premium conventional paints (offering good coverage, vibrant colors, durability, and longevity) but without harmful odors, chemicals, or added solvents. For a quick primer on the definitions of paint toxicity and the like, look for products that are low- or no-VOC in both the paint and the colorant. Most green brands offer large painted color cards and/or small sample pots, a low-waste way to test the color in your space. The move to water-based paints, significantly reduces the solvents and VOC. Colors are derived from natural pigments, as well as other natural ingredients such as china clay, lime putty, and linseed oil.

Sustainable by Design
Green buildings conserve the earth’s natural resources through the efficient and intelligent use of energy, materials, waters, and the building site. They provide their occupants with comfortable surroundings and healthy indoor environments. When clean energy technologies are incorporated into green buildings, the environmental benefits are even greater.
Green Building; also known as green construction or sustainable building can be interpreted in different ways, a common view is that buildings should
be designed and operated to reduce the overall impact of the natural environment and human health.

Fridges made prior to 1999, may not meet Energy standards, most new bottom freezer fridges use less energy than a 60watt light bulb!
Range:1. Measure Your Space- Height, Depth & Width2. Check Your Connection- Electric -110 or 220 and amperage requirements. Gas hook up, Natural Gas or Propane3. Evaluate Features- Ceran or Coil top. Laundry:1. Measure Your Space & Ensure Level, Solid Flooring. Check Hot & Cold Water Hook ups & Hoses. Check Dryer Exhaust System.2. Choose Front or Top Load. If Front load, Side x Side install or Stacking.3. Evaluate Features- Capacity, Water Efficiency, Noise Reduction, Cycle Options.4. Choose Accessories- Do you require a Stacking Kit? Pedestals? Work Surfaces? Detergents? New HE- High Efficiency laundry use substantially, up to 25 gallons, less water than the old Traditional Top Loads. Less Water means less water for your water heater to heat. Less water means less detergent. Less water & Less Detergent equals more money in your pocket. Also the larger capacity means less loads of laundry even less water & less detergent.
Always wash and dry full loads, this can potentially save 3400 gallons of water annually! Do not over load machines, as then machines do not function properly. Clean your Dryers lint filter after each and every load for proper air circulation, as well ensure the exhaust hose is clear to reduce drying time and energy use. Great wine starts in the vineyard...that, is the philosophy of the 40 Knots winery team and that is why everything is done by hand, including the harvest, and why they respectfully select only the finest fruit with which they create their Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and several signature blends, including their new Spindrift Brut. Passionate about producing 100% Vancouver Island wine and going into their 4th vintage, it is becoming evident that the Comox Valley is not just a good place to grow grapes, but that we are capable of growing and producing great wines. This year they are excited to open the Tasting Room and Wine Shop to the public on April 5th for their first full season and they will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 12-5 pm. “ We are so excited to offer our customers the opportunity to join us for the launch our first Case Lot Weekend! “ says Marnie Martin , director of Sales and Events “The event will be happening May 3rd, 4th, and 5th from 12 -5 pm and we will be implementing a 10% discount for our customers for purchases of 12 or more bottles of wine.” The winery is also open for picnics, special events, weddings and tours and starting in May, they will be open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12-5 pm. Stop by or call 250-941-8810 to book your event or order wine. www.40 Knots Winery.com

Meditation; can everyone do it?Everybody can meditate. It is not important
how long you meditate for at any given time
- what’s important is consistency! If you have
5 minutes to spare every day - that’ll do just
fine! If you have more time - great...but if 5
minutes is all you can make available every
day then make those 5 minutes important
enough to give yourself this gift of well-being.
In short, meditation is a tool to find one’s
essential true nature and to maintain ‘mental
hygiene’; an effort to assist us to function
at our full mental potential. It allows for
complete clarity and can play a significant
role in self-discovery and well-being, and it
allows us to connect with our inner truth -
with emotions and feelings that represent our
authentic self. Meditation is the process of
experiencing a state of complete awareness
of our thought pattern and how we react
to those thoughts. On the physical level,
meditation can help to reduce cardiovascular
problems, strengthen the immune system and
decrease chronic pain.
Practicing and implementing meditation
tools in our daily life can help to (re-)establish
an internal balance – wholeness on the
physical,spiritual and emotional level.
It is a journey toward awareness, compassion,
emotional balance, physical well-being, and
spiritual self-discovery.
To your Success!

Adrenal BurnoutThe adrenal glands are our stress glands. We must have strong adrenal
function in order handle the stress of life. With adrenal insufficiency, life’s emergencies become overwhelming -- fight or flight quickly becomes “crash and burn” and we are unable to respond effectively to life’s challenges. When we have pushed ourselves to the limit of our capabilities, our energy collapses and chronic fatigue begins.
Chronic Fatigue and Adrenal BurnoutChronic fatigue is a primary factor in all chronic illnesses whether or not we feel fatigued. The most severe derangement of adrenal function short of total failure is called “adrenal burnout”. Chronic fatigue and disease in general has existed for many years, and it has been nearly completely ignored in modern drug therapy.
Causes of Chronic FatigueIn the years leading up to this degree of breakdown in our ability to produce energy, many other problems will have occurred: indigestion, low blood sugar, low immunity, asthma and other breathing problems, chronic pain such as headaches, joint pain, low back pain, and neck pain, skin disorders such as acne, eczema or psoriasis, weight gain, or under weight, hormonal imbalances, and menstrual problems. Mental problems can range from insomnia to anxiety and depression, mood swings and
even psychosis. Adrenal fatigue and burnout can cause all of these problems and more because every body function requires energy. Stimulants Hide Chronic Fatigue. Caffeine, pain pills, Alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and eventually harder drugs such as amphetamine and cocaine all work by forcing the adrenals to work harder, giving the illusion of energy. Flooding the blood stream with sugar through the use of sodas and juice drinks, candy, breakfast cereals or even refined white flours and white rice which convert to sugar rapidly, creates an emergency in the body which the
adrenal glands must respond to. As the intestinal wall weakens, food sensitivities or food allergies will begin to develop as the body allows poorly digested foods into the bloodstream. Food allergies also provide a stimulant effect until the body begins to wear out under the strain. Constantly eating certain foods such as wheat, dairy, corn, soy, yeast or other common food allergens creates a toxic reaction in the body.

John invited his mother over for dinner. During the meal, his mother couldn’t help noticing how beautiful John’s roommate Julie was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between John and his roommate and this only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between John and the roommate than met the eye. Reading his mom’s thoughts, John volunteered, “I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Julie and I are just roommates.” About a week later, Julie came to John and said, “Ever since your mother came to dinner, I can’t find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don’t suppose she took it, do you?” John said, “Well, I doubt it, but I’ll write her a letter just to be sure.” So he sat down and wrote: “Dear Mother, I’m not saying you ‘did’ take a gravy ladle from my house, and I’m not saying you ‘did not’ take a gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love, John” Several days later, John received a letter from his mother which read: “Dear Son, I’m not saying that you ‘do’ sleep with Julie, and I’m not saying that you ‘do not’ sleep with Julie. But the fact remains that if she were sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now. Love, Mom”
