Communication Technology: 2026Taylor Murray
Smartphones Soon, we won’t be able to count
on both hands how many IPhones are now available to purchase Apple just keeps coming out with
more and more every other year 10 years from now, Apple will
take control over smartphones. With that being said, these
IPhones will never “die” on you. They will be able to last you for months. For safety reasons
Movies Movie theatres are slowly but
surely diminishing in cities all over the world. Could the reasoning be because the
way we view it is…boring? In 2026, movies will be in
“theatre” still. These movie venues will take
viewers on an adventure to explore humans, animals, nature, etc., through sight, smell, sound and touch.
Instead of a “theatre,” it will be more of an intense urban theme park. More people, more space.
Much like 3D, it will seem as if you are part of the movie playing on screen but way more intense.
Computers 10 years from now, there will
be no more desktop computers. Only high tech laptops such as MacBook pros.
Desktop computers are moving too slow for our society now and it is hard to multi-task with them.
These devices will last for years. The battery life of a MacBook in
10 years will always be full.
Social Networking In 2014, Mary Wellons stated, “In just 4 years, eMarketer projects it will
nearly double by 32.7 percent. By then 2.44 billion of the world’s population will be on social networks.” It is now 2016, and social media is rapidly blowing up. The negativity is high
among our society, and I predict the future to be nothing less of what it already is now.
Cory Bergman, BreakingNews Co-Founder stated, “When news breaks in the future, it will be covered by a multitude of eyewitnesses streaming live video. These streams will knit together into a single immersion video, enabling the viewer to virtually experience the event in real time. For better or worse, the world will feel like it’s right around the corner.” This is already happening now in 2016. News reporters, and even the general
public are recording these news events and live streaming them to the rest of the world to see, to make it feel as if they are “in the moment.”
10 years from now, I predict that newspapers will no longer be available. Instead, “everyone” will be a news reporter.
Social Information Processing Developed in 1992 by Joseph Walther. This is a theory that looks at the ways humans interact
online, and how it affects their social behavior vs. communicating via face-to-face How can a person manage a relationship via a
computer/text message? Interpersonal relationships through social networking
require more time to develop than face-to-face communication Today, in 2016, there are many people who meet people
online, date online, etc., and will never see the other persons face. I can only imagine what it will be like in 2026.
Safety is a huge concern when it comes to communicating. 10 years from now, I predict that they will have some sort of safety regulation concerning meeting people online.
Emailing 10 years from now, emailing
will not be a thing. Smartphones will have taken
over completely. Right now, in 2016, almost
everyone sends emails via their smartphones and if you think about it, emailing is exactly the same thing as text messaging.
On smartphones, you can make a group message, you can share information with one another, just like you can do if you were to be “emailing.” Text messaging is more convenient.
Diffusion of Innovations Developed by Everett Rogers,
this is a 5-step process that describes the expansion of technology and new concepts.
This is very important because it deals with decision making. Each and every one of us humans
make a decision on a daily basis. All communication technology
requires “decision making.” For example, when a person is
typing out a text message, email, or post to Facebook, they have to decide what they are going to say, who they are going to send it to, etc. There are many steps to it.
Uses and Gratifications Theory Developed by Jay Blumler and Denis McQuail. This theory looks at what people do with media.
Assumes that individuals have power over their media usage
It is important for people to have their own control over what they say via communication technology. However, in today’s society there are certain restrictions
on issues involving the government. I predict in 2026 it will be even more strict with what can be
said via communication technology.
