Dear Sharks,
Five years ago we published the first CMS Alumni Newsletter hoping to create a communication channel between the alumni community and the Carol Morgan School. So far many of you have used these pages to share your accomplish-ments, your memories and your dreams. This issue marks the beginning of our sixth year and we want to thank all of you, our readers, for your support, your contributions and for using this newsletter as your voice.
Regards, Vielka Morales

Farewell to Mr. Jack Delman
The Carol Morgan School Board of Direc-
tors went out of their way to plan a memo-
rable farewell party for Jack Delman and
his wife Raquel at Museo de las Casas
Reales in the Colonial Zone of Santo
Domingo. The entire community of
teachers, staff, past and present
board members, and special friends
were invited and managed to keep the
event a secret from the Delmans! The
highlight of the night and the biggest
surprise of all was the “gift” presented
to them as appreciation for almost
sixteen years of service; we will never
forget their faces when they saw their
children, Ely ‘02 and Jessica ’06,
come out from their hiding place to
accompany their parents in such a
heartwarming moment.
Jack Delman, or mister D, as we all like
to call him, has been Carol Morgan
School’s Headmaster since the summer
of 1999; he now leaves with the satisfac-
tion of a job remarkably done and the
pride of guiding the school “community on
a path of excellence and growth” as stated
on the plaque he received from the hands
of the CMS Board President, Katia
Rodríguez.
Mister D, will sure be remembered by all
graduating classes from 2000 to 2015;
his vision and leadership made the Carol
Morgan School what it is today and we are
very thankful for that!
See you soon Mr. D!

Career Day at CMS was a huge success!
Students in grades 8-12 selected their top
choice career panels from among the ten
career clusters outlined in Naviance, based
on the US Department of Labor’s Occupa-
tional Outlook Handbook. Over 40 panelists
spoke in the areas of medicine, arts and
design, business and economics, transpor-
tation, hospitality and tourism, law and
diplomacy, IT and engineering, agriculture,
and psychology and human services. This
year we added a second panel on business
and economics as this was the cluster
most highly selected by CMS students. The
day kicked off with a powerful poem pre-
sented by freshman Jose Ricardo Cuadra
entitled “In 10 Years” about how we lose
sight of our childhood career dreams and
need to hold on tight to these in order to
become truly successful in our lives. This
was followed by an at-once hilarious and
also heavy-hitting keynote address by au-
thor and educator Jason Deehan, our 8th
grade Social Studies Teacher, who drew a
comparison between himself and The Fresh
Prince of Bel Air, Will Smith. Mr. Deehan
noted that two had the same exact birthdate
and time and yet had taken such different
paths in life, one ending in fame and fortune,
the other in discontent. Mr. Deehan shared
with his riveted audience how in making this
realization, he turned his life around and
started following his true passions and pur-
suing his dreams.
We were very fortunate to host many mem-
bers of the alumni community as well as the
CMS parent community on our panels and
also brought in speakers from as far away as
Japan via Skype. The day was well received
by students and staff in attendance and was
a good learning experience for all. Here are
just a few of the student take-aways from
Career Day 2015:
“Success isn’t achieved in one set way. It is
your choice and your dedication that mat-
ters.”
“Always follow your passion and reach for
your goals.”
“Dream BIG.”
“Pursue what you love and be persistent.”
Special thanks to our alumni panelists:

It has become a tradition for
the Carol Morgan School
community of parents,
teachers, students and
alumni to spend their day at
the CMS Spring Fest enjoy-
ing all activities, games and
fantastic food offered
throughout the event. This
year was no exception, while
the little ones enjoyed the
zip line and inflatables, oth-
ers registered for the 5K
Fun Run which culminated
with a paint party right on
the field. Besides all the fun,
this event also supports
organizations like Doggie
House and TECHO RD.
One of the best parts of the
Spring Fest is the celebration
of the International Food Fair
(IFF), a culinary display of food
from different parts of the
world. The dishes sold
during the IFF are donated
by members of our vast
international community of
parents and the money
raised goes to support
TECHO RD. This year Rosa
Chang ’89, Jason Amiama
’89 and other members of
the IFF committee, pre-
sented a check to TECHO
RD with the proceeds
from last year, which
were enough to build a
house for one of the
many families living in
extreme poverty that are
beneficiaries of this pro-
gram. This spring they
c o l l e c t e d a r o u n d
US$2,950, enough to
build one more house
and paint others.
CMS Camp Out, a Great Family Event Right on Campus
CMS Spring Fest and International Food Fair Supporting TECHO RD
morning of the next day. We sent out a
survey to the parents who attended and
received their feedback with suggestions
that will help us improve our next Camp
Out; these are some of the comments re-
ceived from the participants when asked
what they valued the most:
“Organization, great ambience, felt very
secure”,
“The sense of being part of a commu-
nity......great!”,
“Well organized, security, bathrooms, great
crowd, good entertainment, my daughter
told me it was the best day of her life”,
“We enjoyed the entire activity. It was won-
derful to spend quality time with our kids”.
The CMS Alumni Association is very thankful
for the wonderful turn out of the first CMS
Camp Out and the support received from our
constituents; it was an unforgettable over-
night experience on campus that was rated
by many as a true family event with 360
people registered. Parents enjoyed with
their children while participating in the dif-
ferent activities planned and directed by
Camp Frost. Every moment was filled with
non-stop fun, from the tents set up in the
evening to the foam slide at 7:00 in the
Julie Jefferys, Jason Amiama ‘89, Rosa Chang ‘89, and Sarah Amiama presenting the check to a volunteer from TECHO RD.
