CHSS Marketing and Press & PR Team
• Established summer 2011• Three Marketing Officers and two Press & PR Officers,
based within Communications and Marketing• A source of professional marketing, press and PR
advice and guidance for schools within CHSS• Each school within the College provided with
dedicated marketing and press & PR support contacts
Working to school priorities
We work with schools to address their marketingneeds/priorities.
• School priorities vary from school to school and can depend on:– the time of year
– the school’s resources
– the school, College and University strategies
– external factors
• Marketing priorities for schools across CHSS have included:– postgraduate student recruitment and conversion
– undergraduate student recruitment and conversion
– website enhancement
– the REF
Example marketing activities
• Strategy formulation and marketing planning
• Production of marketing materials including flyers, brochures and pop-up banners
• Guidance on website enhancement
• Support of undergraduate post-offer visit days
• Support of undergraduate and postgraduate conversion
• Advertising campaigns for postgraduate programmes
• Photography
• Video production
• Market research e.g. competitor analysis, demand surveys

The Press & PR Team tell the world your stories.
• First port of call on whether a story is newsworthy• Create and implement media strategy – writing press releases,
managing photocalls, tracking coverage• Links with journalists in a variety of media (print, radio, TV, online)
around the world• Crisis communications planning • Media training• Internal outlets – Bulletin and Edit• Maintain experts directory
