Issue 14 Autumn Term - 15th December
The drop boxes with your responses to the questionnaire found in the centrefold of the current Horsley Directory are now being collected. We will submit the results to GBC to hopefully change their minds and allow us to move to the perfect site where we can build a brand new, eco-friendly school with enough room to play and adequate parking.
A massive thank you to all those parents who have been manning the library at lunchtime. It is lovely to have the library open every day and all the children I have spoken to, love it too. Borrowing books for this term has now ended but the children know they are still able to visit the library at lunchtime to look and share books but not take them out.
Thanks for all of your generous donations to the Reverse Advent Challenge. Struggling families will be very pleased.
Monday’s piano assembly was lovely. Learning an instrument is great but it is not all about practising scales and pieces for grade exams—performance is the best bit! Thanks for organising this Mrs Robinson and to the parents for coming. We even had two duets. Well done children.
The Reception Nativity yesterday was charming. Huge thanks for script writing, producing and directing, Mrs Mumby, Mrs Dennis, Miss Taylor, Mrs Osborne, Mrs Parry and Mrs Birch. Thanks also go to Reception parents who provided such beautiful costumes. The children sang, spoke and danced beautifully—amazing for such young children. St Mary’s Church provided a creche at the school so even more families were able to attend. Thank you St Mary’s team! Photography is not allowed in shows anymore so I am pleased to say that the display of photographs was very popular in the Green Room afterwards, manned by our wonderful Friends who provided the refreshments.
Later the same day, Year 2 went to Lime Grove to sing to the residents. The children all behaved and sang beautifully, I hear, so well done and thanks to Mrs Robinson, Miss McGuigan, Mrs Foran, Mrs Hutt, Mrs Stroud and Mrs Paulson for organising it and going too. Also, thanks to the large number of parents who transported; it could not have happened without you. This event was eagerly anticipated by the residents and will have lit up their week.
The Hall is being prepared for the two discos this evening; thanks to The Friends for organising these and to the large number of helpers without whom they could not happen. As we have explained for weeks this is a pre-paid, ticketed event that not all the children are able to attend for health and safety reasons, so sorry if you were too late and it had sold out. Apply earlier next year! Headlines is essential weekly reading in order to avoid disappointment.
All are welcome at the KS2 Carol Concert on Monday at 6pm; younger and older siblings—wrap up warm and join in!
Congratulations to the designers of this years school Christmas Cards, Callum Jones, Divya Coomarasamy and Daniel Stephens. Their designs can be found on page 2.
Next week there are 2 PE skills sessions on Wednesday for which the children will need their house colour top, black or green tracksuit bottoms, their green PE sweatshirt and trainers.
Attendance
Last week, 29 lates were recorded, 30 more than the previous week but still our second worst week. 2 children
were absent due to medical appointments, 3 less than last week. In addition there was 1 unauthorised absence which
was 4 less than last week.
It is really important to arrive at school ON TIME. Polite reminder—the gate opens at 08:40 and closes at 08:50. We deduct one house point for every
late mark that a child receives.
This term, to date, 171 children have 100% attendance. Remember that every
child with 100% attendance at the end of this term will receive 39 house points!
Are you interested in giving Horsley Bear a home for Christmas? These are
available for £10 from the school office or by calling
Lorraine Elliott on 07980 559029
We are extremely short of visitors badges. May we please ask you to search
your bags and pockets and return any you may find.
Thank you!
The Reception teachers would like to
borrow some Little Tikes cars for the
first two weeks of next term.
If you have one that you would be happy
to loan us, please contact

are asking for donations of large pieces of polystyrene from big boxes such as televisions or any other large Christmas presents you may have.
Donations can be left at the school office.

Year 6 have been busy writing
persuasive speeches to persuade the rest of the year group to
support a charity of their choice. We then held an election to find a
charity to support. The election was won by Jesse Bramley-Brett
with his moving speech in support of Cherry Trees. Year 6 will now
donate £88.88 to this very worthy cause. This money represents a
proportion of the profits from the Young Apprentice Project held last week. The remainder of the profits
go to the Friends of the Raleigh. Well done to both Jesse
and Year 6.
The Key Stage 2

The Concert will take place, ‘whatever
the weather’. Children need to be in

Once in Royal David’s City
O Come all ye faithful
O little town of Bethlehem
Little Donkey
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
This is an unticketed event, so bring the whole
family along to join in with the festive spirit!
There will be a retiring collection in aid of
Cancer Research. The charity was chosen by
the KS2 children.
Once In Royal David’s City
Once in royal David’s city,
Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her Baby,
In a manger for His bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ, her little Child.
He came down to earth from heaven,
Who is God and Lord of all,
And His shelter was a stable,
And His cradle was a stall:
With the poor, and meek, and lowly,
Lived on earth our Saviour holy.
For He is our childhood's pattern;
Day by day, like us, He grew;
He was little, weak, and helpless,
Tears and smiles, like us He knew;
And He feeleth for our sadness,
And he shareth in our gladness.
And our eyes at last shall see Him,
Through His own redeeming love;
For that Child so dear and gentle,
Is our Lord in heaven above:
And He leads His children on,
To the place where He is gone.
O Come all ye faithful
O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing all ye citizens of heaven above
Glory to God
In the highest
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this Christmas morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
O little town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love
O morning stars together
Proclaim the holy birth
And praises sing to God the King
And Peace to men on earth
How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.
O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel
Little Donkey
Little donkey, little donkey on the dusty
road
Got to keep on plodding onwards with your
precious load
Been a long time, little donkey, through the
winters night
Don't give up now, little donkey,
Bethlehem's in sight
Ring out those bells tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Follow that star tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day
Little donkey, carry Mary safely on her way
Little donkey, little donkey, journey's
end is near
There are wisemen waiting for a sign to
bring them here
Do not falter little donkey, there's
a star ahead
It will guide you, little donkey, to a cattle
shed
Ring out those bells tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Follow that star tonight
Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Little donkey, little donkey, had a heavy day
Little donkey, carry Mary, safely on her way
Little donkey, carry Mary, safely on her way
