Christmas Shoebox Project 2010
Helping Angels need your help to give more than 1000 children in
children’s homes and safe houses in Cape Town, the joy of getting their
own personalised gifts from Santa.
We also collect gifts for 110 residents of old age homes and food hampers
for 220 needy pensioners to spoil these wonderful forgotten angels with special Christmas treats.
1. RECEIVE THE NAME OF A SPECIAL LITTLE ANGEL
Send an email to [email protected] , with the following information:
♥ how many shoeboxes you would like to make ♥ which drop off point is closest to you ♥ confirm if you would like to join
us at the handouts (then we will allocate names to you for handouts that fall on a weekend)
You will receive the names allocated to you, with a wish list of the child giving information such as what the child would like
to be when they grow up, what they would love for Christmas, their clothing and shoe sizes, etc. You do not have to put the
requests on the wish list into your shoebox, this can to be used as a guideline only, but we will require that the items
mentioned below must be in each box.
2. FILL YOU SHOEBOX
We want each little angel to get a box that is about the same size, so please use a standard size shoebox, nothing bigger
than a medium shoebox (for running shoes) will be accepted. Fill your box with items from each section below to make
the gift both useful and enjoyable:
• TOYS
Pack a small toy like a tennis ball, finger puppet, yo-yo, teddy bears, building blocks, trucks and cars, dolls, etc
• EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES
Something to do, like a coloring book, notepad, picture/puzzle/reading book, pens, pencil sharpener, rubber, pencil
case, stickers, paint, clay, etc
• HYGIENE ITEMS
All boxes must contain a toothbrush & toothpaste, soap and a facecloth. In addition to this you can also add more
hygiene items if you still have space in your box, like a hairbrush or comb, roll-on deodorant, shampoo & conditioner,
body lotion, make-up or hair accessories etc
• TREATS
Don’t include treats like chocolate that will melt in the heat, rather include dried fruits, nuts, nougat, fizzers, jelly
sweets, boxed biscuits, crisps, caramel popcorn, etc, (sell by date to be at least end of Jan 2011)
• CLOTHING
Any items such as a T-shirts, shorts, pants, dresses, jerseys, pajamas, scarf, cap, hat, socks, jackets, shoes, etc
3. DECORATE/WRAP YOUR BOX
Now the fun starts, with decorating the box!! Wrap the shoe box with bright colorful wrapping paper or let your children
create drawings to decorate the box or let them add stickers, etc. You are welcome to wrap the lid separately so that it can
be lifted off/opened to make a “keep sake” box that the child can use to store their treasures in, but please secure the lid
with an elastic band so that the goods can not fall out until it reaches your little angel.
4. LABEL YOUR BOX
Print the labels that will you received with your names, and stick the label on the outside of your shoebox, at the top right
hand corner on the lid. Without this label your box will not be accepted at the drop off points.
5. DROP OFF
The deadline for shoebox submissions will be 13 November 2010. This will give us only 3 weekends to sort, check and
personally deliver over 1000 shoeboxes before schools close, so we ask that everyone help us by sticking to this deadline and
to the agreed arrangements in terms of drop off locations. Late boxes will not be accepted, since we will have to make
alternate arrangements for all boxes not received by deadline.
If you will be attending the handout sessions, we ask that you still hand in your shoebox as per the deadline, so that we can
ensure that every child on our list will get a shoebox. This also eliminates those unforeseen circumstances that might leave a
little angel not receiving their box, which we have to avoid at all cost…. Santa never forgets!
