THOUGHTS FROM THE EXALTED RULER
October is behind us and it was a busy month at the Lodge. Gun show,
Poker Run and rentals were very good activities that benefited our
Lodge and the community.
November is now upon us and a couple of events will stand out. Deer
hunting season and our Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner. For all the
hunters out there, be sure to bring you deer hides to the Lodge. Have
them salted down and placed inside a trash bag to be stored in our
freezer. We will get them to the Elk’ processer and they will be turned
into fine gloves and other leather good for our Veterans. Our state of
Missouri in 2018-19 turned in over 10,000 hides to lead all other state
Elks’ Lodges were hides were recovered for the very worthy project.
More importantly, November is time for all families to give Thanks for
everything we have in the great county. As we com together for this
occasion, remember our loved ones past and present. Remember our
military and our Elk Family
Fraternally,

VETERAN’S REPORT
On November 20th our annual Veterans Appreciation Holiday
Thanksgiving Dinner is being planned. Plan ahead of time and invite a
Veteran. The dinner will be served at 12 Noon. Veterans should arrive
between 11:15 and 11:30 AM. Anyone inviting a veteran should give a
head count to Denny Peterson by Friday, November 15th. We will be
providing gift baskets for 10 Veterans at Christmas.
In addition, on December 7th we will be participating in the annual Itus
Virtus Wreaths For Fallen Soldiers.
The Itus Virtus Wreaths for Fallen Heroes program was started in
late 2015. The program was created to help raise money for
purchasing wreaths for the headstones of our fallen heroes during
the holiday season. There are over 22,000 headstones in the state
of Missouri which did not receive a wreath during the holiday
season.

AUXILIARY NEWS
The Auxiliary met on October 8th with 21 members dining on a delicious meal furnished by the M's thru W's. Following was the reading of the Secretary's and the Treasurer's reports. The rest of the committee reports were given. Upcoming events were discussed. Next Saturday, the 12th is the Lodge Poker Run. Desserts will be greatly appreciated for the meal served after the run is completed. With the Holidays soon to be upon us, any help with serving these meals and furnishing desserts will be appreciated. All who can participate in the Ozark Christmas Parade are encouraged to do so. We will need contributions of candy that is wrapped appropriately for tossing to children along the parade route. If you've never been in this parade, you should consider it. It's a nice parade and full of hometown spirit. The Auxiliary is fixing a meal following the parade, for all who are participating in the parade. Sheila is making vegetable soup and Claudette is fixing the famous "Coley Chili". I'm sure we will find other goodies to go along with the soups. Further information about the parade will be coming in another email later. We took in a new member this month, Deborah Rankin. Welcome Deborah!!! If you are interested in joining our group, please contact me. Mary Angell, at 848-2763 or [email protected]. Hope to see you at the Lodge. Mary Angell, President

LIFELINE SCREENING
November is National Diabetes Month Every 17 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes, a disease which kills more people each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined. The American Diabetes Association’s website states that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless steps are taken to stop this disease. Early detection is critical. This is why Christian County Elks Lodge 2777 is hosting Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. One of the tests is a simple blood test for glucose (sugar) which can determine if a person is at-risk of developing diabetes. Other screenings include tests to check for blocked carotid arteries, atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, which are the three leading risk factors for stroke. Nearly 800,000 strokes will occur this year, taking a life approximately every four minutes. There are also tests to check for abdominal aortic aneurysms and PAD, also called “hardening of the arteries” in the legs. Diabetes is a major risk factor for stroke and is directly related to Peripheral Arterial Disease. Recommendations for people with diabetes included a PAD test starting at age 50. Screening packages start at $139. Single tests cost around $70. For more information regarding the screenings or to schedule an appointment, call 1-888-653-6441 or go to www.lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle or text the word circle to 797979. Pre-registration is required.
